Passengers 6/10
I enjoyed it but I don't think either of them were good enough to carry the film (and I love Jennifer Lawrence but she seemed bored). It could have been so much better, would have liked more people to have been awake. |

Zootropolis 7/10
I thought I was going to hate this but I was pleasantly surprised. So many clever details that I missed the first time. |

Moonraker (1979)
I was in the mood for an oldie tonight and I quite fancied a bit of James Bond. So, I decided to watch Moonraker again, for no particular reason. I have most of the Bond films, with the exception of Spectre, which I wasn't really keen on. I hadn't seen Moonraker for a while, which helped me to choose. Anyway, I enjoyed watching it again. It isn't the best Bond film by far and it isn't even my favourite Roger Moore Bond, but it is usually enjoyable if I am in the right mood. I think that it is one of the most far-fetched Bond films and was obviously made to cash-in on the success of the first Star Wars film, back in 1977. The plot is not worth thinking about too much, but it does have some good stunts, particularly the parachute scene at the start. It is somewhat ruined by the very obvious stunt doubles, though. The film also featured the return of Jaws, though I didn't like what happened to him in the film and how he became a good guy in the end. I have always thought that the theme song by Shirley Bassey is awful too and features some particularly appalling lyrics. However, I still prefer it to any of the Daniel Craig Bond films, because at least Moonraker is entertaining. I still think that it is a fun way to pass a couple of hours quite nicely if you switch your brain off first. It is probably Moore's worst Bond film, in my opinion, but there are worse than this in the Bond series. I give it 6/10, because of the stunts and action scenes and also because of Jaws. |

Honour [2014]. Director: Shan Khan
6/10 What starts out as a serious movie about an honour killing in a British Asian family turns into a routine thriller when a white supremacist is hired to finish the job off. ******* Rushmore [1998]. Director: Wes Anderson 7/10 Anderson's 2nd feature and the first to star regulars Jason Schwartzman (in his film debut) and Bill Murray. Co-written by Owen Wilson who isn't in it but brother Luke has a supporting role. |

The Tunnel (2016) - 7/10
A callous salesman is driving in a newly-constructed tunnel through a mountain when the tunnel collapses around him, trapping him inside the mountain. His ordeal of trying to stay alive in his entombed car attracts attention from the press, the public and the government while a massive rescue operation is set up to save him. Surprisingly suspenseful and entertaining, even though it got a bit implausible at times. Great performances from the main cast. |

Colonia (2015) 5/10
True story about a compound in a remote region of Chile run by a secretive cult with links to Pinochet''s dictatorial regime. Emma Watson is most unconvincing as the lead protagonist joining the cult in an attempt. at freeing her boyfriend. |

Victoria.
This Berlin-based film received attention due to the one-take scenario involved but l found it hard to believe that someone that sensible getting involved with a gang who wouldn't be out of place in a carry-on film! Decent cinematography and soundtrack couldn't save this film from the depths of ludicrous! Also, l hope that the ambulances in Germany are quicker to reach their emergencies in real life than in this film! 4/10 |

Over New Year, I watched The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists! as I hadn't heard of it before and it was an Aardman production.
Several times I had to retrieve my socks from where I had laughed them off. ![]() Loved it and I think I'll track down the DVD in CEX. |

Live And Let Die (1973)
I watched Moonraker the other day and I was in the mood for a bit more Bond today. For some reason, I chose Live And Let Die, even though it has never been one of my favourite Bond films. I hadn't seen it for a while, which may have influenced my decision. However, I didn't enjoy it. The passage of time has not been kind to it and it is extremely dated now and very much of its time. The music is also awful, as is the title song by Wings, which I have never liked. I must be one of the minority of Bond fans who have never liked the theme song to this film. I also think that the action scenes are nothing special, the speedboat scene goes on for far too long and the film doesn't feature any spectacular stunts. The villains are also very weak in this film and now look like nothing more than a crude homage to films such as Shaft, which were made at around the same time. I know that many Bond fans also like Jane Seymour as the main Bond girl, but I have never thought that she was anything special. I guess that I am in the minority again, though. I know that this was Roger Moore's first Bond film and therefore holds a special place in many peoples' hearts. I am afraid that I don't share the same affection for this film, though. Moore would go on to make much, much better Bond films than this, in my opinion. This film has been vastly over-rated and highly praised, though it doesn't deserve to be. It is one of the few Bond films that I have never liked and my opinion of it hasn't changed. I give it 4/10. I am sorry if people don't agree with me, but that is my opinion and I am entitled to it, as are everyone else to theirs. I have a feeling that my copy of this Bond film is destined for the shelves of CEX very soon. |

A teenage gang thinks it will have an easy task robbing a blind war veteran. Reasonably entertaining home invasion thriller. |

Had a pretty busy week watching films that I needed to catch up on...
ROGUE ONE: A Star Wars Story - (Link) Great movie! Somehow I managed to avoid all spoilers which made the film even more enjoyable. The surprises and that ending.... These are good times to be a Star Wars fan. ![]() PETE'S DRAGON (2016) - (Link) Dull film! The reason I had to watch this was because of my niece. She loves dragons. I never liked the original 1977 film either but that one had more heart than this remake. THE NICE GUYS - (Link) Great movie! I would love to see a sequel to this one. Russel Crowe and Ryan Gosling are a great team onscreen. ![]() THE TAKING OF TIGER MOUNTAIN - (Link) I was really looking forward to this one. It's a Chinese propaganda film set after World War 2. Bandits control a mountain fortress that the PLA must liberate. The action sequences are pretty good with some inventive camera & visual FX. There are a few cringeworthy scenes (especially at the end of the film) but I still liked it. RIGOR MORTIS - (Link) Odd... very odd film from Hong Kong. It's about supernatural happenings in a rundown apartment building. I don't want to say any more than that. It's very moody, depressing, weird and.... interesting. It's different, that's for sure. I still don't know if I liked it or not. |
