STAR TREK BEYOND - (link)

This is an extremely enjoyable addition to the J.J. Abrams Star Trek universe - and the first to have a different director, Justin Lin. What made it outstanding was that it was fast-paced and you get to see the main crew interact with one another more as friends. A joy to watch.

DC: SUICIDE SQUAD - (link)

I didn't know what to expect. I'm not a big Will Smith fan. I'm not familiar with the comic books it's based on. The joker looked a little odd & over the top. But I ended really enjoying this film. It wasn't dull and Will Smith was actually ok in this. I watched the theatrical version, not the extended director's cut. Anyway, good film.

Nativity 3 - Dude where's my donkey. It makes the other two Nativity films look
Like the greatest ones ever made. I'm thinking of suing God and asking for those two hours (it felt like years) back.

A monster calls. Very suprising. Less about monsters, more about feelings..... (4/5)

The Phantom of the Opera [1989]. Director: Dwight H. Little

6/10

The action re-located to London (but shot in Budapest) and starring Robert Englund (with an English accent) as a Freddy-style Phantom. Producer Menahem Golan had scenes shot in modern day Manhattan* as a framing narrative in the hope of producing a sequel but that never materialised.

*(a modern day Manhattan of 1989, complete with Twin Towers, the Pan Am building and the main Tower Records store).

Masterminds (2016) - 8/10
Fact-based crime comedy of 1997 Loomis Fargo armoured car heist with $17m stolen. Wasn't aware of this film in the cinema and only chose to watch as it starred Zack Galifiankis, Kirsten Wiig, Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis. Really enjoyable little film and would recommend.

Sully (2016) - 8.5/10
Tom Hanks and the emergency landing of the airplane into the Hudson River in New York. Really enjoyed this film too and it was interesting and alarming how dismissive the authorities were of Sully's actions that saved 155 on board

The Punisher [2004] w/director commentary -7/10- Another under-rated film IMO, found the commentary by the director very interesting.

Network (1976)

Horribly funny, and still bloody relevant.

I hadn't watched it for many years and enjoyed watching it again.

Sex Ed [2014]. Director: Isaac Feder

5/10

Haley Joel Osment (the kid from The Sixth Sense) as a novice schoolteacher giving sex education lessons to kids whilst trying to lose his virginity out of school hours.

*******
Ali [2001]. Director: Michael Mann

7/10

Will Smith gives a believable performance as The Greatest, in and out of the ring.

*******
Mamma Mia! [2008]. Director: Phyllida Lloyd

5/10

Cringey musical. Amanda Seyfried can actually sing, the rest of the cast, oh dear.

10 Cloverfield Lane 5/10

I think that in order to create suspense, the audience must care about the characters, but personally I didn't care about anybody in which case, the outcome was a formality.
