Just seen The Day the Earth Stood Still which was on More 4 in the week.
Was an OK film but very dated so it gets a 5 out of 10.

Terminator Genisys (2015) 6/10

Although the timeline of the film doesn't make sense, and it's nowhere near the quality of Terminator or Judgement Day, I still enjoyed this a lot more than Rise of the Machines and Salvation.

Not that that is saying much.

Hunger Games Mocking Jay. Found it to be kinda bland and lacking in excitement that the 1st one and even the 2nd one had.

The Visit- was hoping for a return to form from M.Night alas not to be, the film would have worked better as a conventional film, the found footage style was not needed at all and I think found footage works well in the horror genre as a rule.

5/10

Lethal Weapon 3 - hadn't watched this for years, 1 and 2 are action classics but the knockabout comedy is overdone in this one, the worst in the series LW4 being marginally better.

5/10

Festen - Dutch film from 'The Hunt' director Thomas Vinterberg with a similar theme, pretty compelling stuff 7/10

Agreed on LW3 being the worst of the series. LW4 had some genuinely hilarious and memorable scenes that but it slightly above. I'm a big fan of the series in general though.

I watched the 2011 movie "The Thing" last night.

I'd known about it before but I always assumed it was a re-make of the 1982 John Carpenter movie and it was only by chance that I read something which said it was a prequel but they couldn't think of an appropriate name for it ("The Thing Arrives" etc) so they just called it "The Thing" as well.

I thought it was very entertaining.
If you're a fan of the JC film it's well worth watching and it's very impressive the way they've gone to a lot of effort to create a story which leave the research station in exactly the condition that Kurt Russell finds it in the other film.

Chappie - 6.5/10

An update of Short Circuit but with the usual Blomkamp social morality question.
Enjoyable enough and the CGI looks good.

Beverly Hills Cop - Action comedy that made Eddie Murphy a star. Other than the soundtrack, not sure if it holds up.

6/10

The Breakfast Club - Charming and relatable coming of age drama about a group of teens in detention who learn about each others secrets and insecurities. Can't believe I didn't see this years ago.

8/10

Gregory's Girl - Scottish 'inbetweener' becomes infatuated with a girl who replaces him in the school football team. The only thing I took from it was how ridiculous the hairstyles were. The 80s

Lincoln [2012]. Director: Steven Spielberg

7/10

Worthy, if a little dull, biopic.

*******
Inspector Gadget [1999]. Director: David Kellog

3/10

Feeble live action adaptation of a TV cartoon series.

*******
Fun Size [2012]. Director: Josh Schwartz

5/10

Annoying kid comedy

*******
Captain Phillips [2013]. Director: Paul Greengrass

7/10

A true story that is never particularly exciting.

*******
Bolt [2008]. Directors: Chris Williams & Byron Howard

7/10

Animated fun starring the voices of John Travolta & Miley Cyrus.

*******
Me and You [2012]. Director: Bernardo Bertolucci

7/10

The now wheelchair-bound Bertolucci returns after a 9 year absence to direct this compelling tale of a teenage boy dodging a school skiing trip to hide in the basement of his mother's apartment building. Then his junkie half sister turns up.

*******
Doug's 1st Movie [2009]. Director: Maurice Joyce

4/10

Another retread of an old TV cartoon series, this one still animated.

*******

The Way, Way Back [2013]. Directors: Nat Faxon & Jim Rash

7/10

Teenage boy on holiday with his mother and her unpleasant new partner escapes by day to find friendship and some love interest. All nicely written and played.

I have to say I did not get that film at all 'sub-par Picnic at Hanging Rock' was my reaction at the time. 9/10 is a high score though so I will give it another go, maybe I missed something. In a similar yet very different genre, I recommend 'Girlhood' (France - 2014)

Maze Runner (2014) Didn't have very high expectations and they weren't reached. Much more a kids film than things like Insurgent. If your 13 probably a 8/10 anyone over 31 more like 2/10.
