Places In The Heart - US Depression drama about Sally Field's character trying to make her way through tough times after her husband dies. Good performances from the main cast, always been a big fan of John Malkovich anyway.
7/10 The Notebook - Formulaic love story. I fell in love with Rachel McAdams though, she's so radiant ![]() 6/10 |

Love Like Poison - 6.25/10. The extra .25 is for keeping it brief...too many films are far longer than they need to be...

Terminator: Genisys
Talk about running out of ideas, it's just basically a rehash of the original and T2 with an underwhelming twist towards the end. Some decent action sequences but not enough to justify it's existence. The casting of Sarah & Kyle was way off the mark and everytime Sarah called Arnie "Pops" I cringed. This franchise needs terminating, it's just going around in circles now. 5/10 |

Prometheus - second time seeing it, even more codswallop than the first time. Ridley seems to have purged his soul with The Martian though.

Left Behind - 4/10
Nicholas Cage plays a pilot who has to land his plane in the middle of the Rapture (yes, you read that correctly). According to imdb, the film is written and/or funded by devout Christians but the film isn't quite as bad as imdb would have you believe. Notting Hill - 4/10 |

The Imitation Game - 9/10
I'd been putting off seeing this as it all looked a bit serious, but I really enjoyed it. A fascinating story of a truly amazing man. |

Lost River - Ryan Gosling has learned well from his master for his directorial feature. About a struggling family living in Detroit, though you wouldn't know this was the story because every shot is designed within an inch of its life and is so self conciously trying to come off as an art film.
5/10 The Theory of Everything - A look at the life of Stephen Hawking from the perspective of his first wife Jane Hawking. A bit televisual but I was moved by the story nonetheless and the performances were universally great. 7/10 |

The Martian
I had to watch it in super-dark-3D so I could get back in time for the rugby, that's my main complaint 8/10

'The Immigrant' (2013) 6/10
Marion Cotillard as a Polish immigrant to the US in 1921 desperate to avoid her and her sister being deported back. The movie left me a little cold despite Ms Cotillard being such a brilliant actress. |

Whiplash 2014
A friend lent this to me and it was better than I expected, based on the subject matter. It's basically about a young lad who wants to join a prestigious jazz band at his college and how the band leader unconventionally gets the best from him. |

Tomorrowland (2015). I didn't make it beyond the Clooney opening monologue, sometimes even just a minute or so is enough to tell you about a film( that and my fairly low tolerance levels as far as Clooney goes). People could say how can you tell a film is going to be dreadful just from the opening minute - its easy, any director that thought having Clooney open the film like that should be kept away from making films.
Wait till its on freeview/10. |

The Lost Continent (1968) - It was on the Horror channel. It was rubbish, but quite enjoyable at the same time. The monsters were good for a laugh, anyway.
