Heaven Is For Real - Kid in the US said he visited heaven during an operation. There are some interesting discussions in the film about what he claims to have seen and Greg Kinnear's a good actor but like with most religious films, it does have a lot of corny moments.

Terminator Genysis - anal fissure/10

Terrible just terrible- Jai Courtney is a terrible actor and I'll make sure I never watch another film by whoever cretin wrote the script.

It Rains on our Love [1946]. Director: Ingmar Bergman

7/10

Bergman's 2nd feature is a modern fairytale about a couple with hidden secrets who struggle through with the aid of a mysterious guardian angel-type figure (also the film's narrator).

*******

Devils of War [2013]. Director: Eli Dorsey

2/10

Ham-fisted Naziploitation movie. When the leading man is the stunt arranger and he's giving by far the best performance then you know you're in trouble.

*******
Penny Paradise [1938]. Director: Carol Reed

6/10

Cheerful comedy supposedly set in Liverpool (though no-one at Ealing seemed to have a clue what a scouse accent should sound like). Star Edmund Gwenn would soon find fame in Hollywood, leading lady Betty Driver had to wait a little longer to find fame in Coronation Street.

*******
So Close to Life [1958]. Director: Ingmar Bergman

7/10

Later Bergman film is set entirely in a maternity hospital featuring a woman who's just had a miscarriage, a woman about to give birth and an unmarried woman with doubts about her pregnancy. Award winner at Cannes for cast and director.

*******
Cheer Up! [1936]. Director: Leo Mittler

5/10

Producer, writer and star Stanley Lupino (father of Hollywood star Ida) maintains a frenetic pace in this musical comedy shot at Ealing. He's old enough to be the father of his love interest Sally Gray (playing a character of the same name), a stunning looking actress who quit movies too soon (at first after a nervous breakdown, then after a comeback to marry into the peerage).

I finally got around to watching some films from the Schwarzenegger 4 Movie Collection Blu-ray set I bought a while ago. I've seen these films multiple times previously, but this is the first time I've seen any of them on Blu-ray.

Commando - Great fun. Looks good. Far less cuts than the DVD version suffered.

Predator - Really enjoyed it (again). I'd read that a lot of people reckon this version looks terrible, but apart from the occasional waxy looking face close-up I was actually impressed with the way it looked.

Going to (re-)watch some more Arnie films on Blu this week. Still have The Terminator, Conan the Barbarian, and Total Recall to watch.

Lay The Favorite - 7/10

A "private dancer" enters the gambling syndicate world via Bruce Willis and finds love along the way. It's a light-hearted drama and not a grim sort of film you might expect given the gambling backdrop. I found the lead character very likeable and all the other characters interesting. Ignore the low imdb ranking and give it a go.

Martyrs - Hm, how do I describe this... At the beginning a child escapes from captivity after suffering immeasurable physical abuse. Years later she decides to get revenge on the people who tortured her. Seems like a basic revenge thriller from its setup but saying anything more would be to spoil the film. Having said this, I have never felt this defeated by a film since Funny Games. Something I will most likely never see again, despite its revelatory final act.

The director's cut is now complete, with the MPAA cuts restored as well as the BBFC ones.

I recently brought this box set, just got predator to watch, although seen before, fantastic box set and honestly thought i wouldn't enjoy Conan but i was wrong. Going to purchase the Total Recall, Raw Deal, Red Heat blu ray box set next, another Arnie film I'm after on blu ray is Eraser looks like I'm going to have to get it shipped from Australia not available on blu ray in the uk.

re. Total Recall. That's another one that has been re-released on Blu in a (hopefully!) improved version. Not sure which version is included in the boxset. Might be worth checking that out before buying, if it matters. The Blu version I have has 'THE CULT SCI-FI MASTERPIECE COMES ALIVE IN A NEW HIGH DEFINITION TRANSFER SUPERVISED BY DIRECTOR PAUL VERHOEVEN' printed on the back of the case.

I recently re-watched Eraser (on DVD) for the first time since I saw it at the cinema, and I really enjoyed the re-watch. Fun movie.

re. The Commando uncut Blu.......... I'm making do with the boxset disc. The set only cost £7, and I'm not buying another version of the film.

The runtimes of Total Recall according to blu-ray.com are the same, but hopefully the one in the boxset will have a good transfer, bargain price for the 3 films £5.50 delivered.

Commando isn't the directors cut in the boxset but again £8 for four films great price, i noticed this when i got mine also.

Another blu-ray not in the UK but one i will be ordering is The Running Man, forgot to mention in last post.

Picked up Terminator 2 off eBay this week for £3.30 also, will be watching that in the week.

Sicario - 8/10

This is one of those films that doesn't hold back anything. The politics, the circumstances, the agendas are all authentic.
Very few films dare to be this bold with the truth.

"Out of Sight" was seventeen years ago.

Nothing she has been in since is anywhere near as good. She should have stuck to being a pop diva instead.
