Beasts of no nation - 8.5/10
Just about to watch Beasts of No Nation also. But also have Bridge of Spies for later.

'Centurion' on Ch5. Non-sensical gash of the highest order. Idiots running around with massive plot holes or behaving with modern day sensibilities.

Inside Out (2015) Not a fan of the cartoon films occasionally one is great - Toy Story or Shrek but the vast majority are truly dreadfull. Sequels tend to be even more painfull, still cant get the stain off the upholstery after trying TS3. Inside Out is a rarity, it was quite enjoyable, i even laughed a few times. I would say this is a solid contender for next years best film Oscar. 7.5/10

The Lady Eve (1941) Henry Fonda channelling his inner Cary Grant as a rich young man who is the target for card-sharps on a Liner. They rarely make them like this anymore. 10/10 ( almost 11/10 ).

The Day Of The Jackal 9/10

2nd time I've seen this but must be 25 years ago when I last saw it and it's still brilliant now.
Gripping thriller and the story is just wonderfully told.A lot of thrillers these days could learn a lot from this film

'Miss Sadie Thompson' (1953) 8/10

Rita Hayworth in the W. Somerset Maugham novel.

A strange film perhaps, alternating between sunny 'Blue Hawaii'-style musical numbers in tropical settings, searching reflections on colonialism, and outright struggle between good and evil.

Should anyone wonder what Ms Hayworth was all about, this is a good film to watch. Includes a young Charles Bronson!

Corridors of Blood - 5/10

A really tame, so-called "horror" about a surgeon who becomes addicted to drugs. A young Christopher Lee is in it according to the credits but I didn't recognise him.

Metro Manila - 7/10

A family move to the aforementioned place and struggle to pay their way. The father takes up a dangerous job as a security van driver (the ones that take money to banks) and his wife turns to the world of stripping. The film really gets into the swing of it when the father and his colleague get to know each other.

Knock Knock. 6/10. Quite well made and performed, but ultimately a bit disappointing. It takes a little while to get going and then rattles along at a decent pace, but the ending lets it down and a lack of explanation for a few things made it all seem a bit pointless.

Taxi Driver. The themes explored here - mental illness, social isolation, child exploitation, perversion, gun control - never date, making this sublime viewing 40 years on. 10/10

Jurassic World 5/10

It's not good when you don't care if everybody lives or dies ..... Including the children

The first two films had some great action sequences that didn't involve dinosaurs at all. This film is totally dependant on them.

What a disjointed mess.

Beasts of No Nation - Unforgiving and uncormfortable look at child soldiers in an unamed West African nation. For the most part I was thoroughly engaged, even when things became really tough. The narrative does get muddled in the middle for a bit but the central lead actor Abraham Atta and the commander of the militia (Idris Elba) that recruits him keep the film grounded.

7/10

Blue is the warmest colour (France - 2013) 3/10

A young woman's friendship with a another blue-haired woman develops into something more.

Yes that's it. I am clearly in the minority that did not understand this film as it has received many accolades. Personally I really cannot see the point. Some films look dated even before they are released and this is one of them. More like a soap-opera really.

Great fun from start to finish.

George Miller truly is a master of the action film genre.

Just got back from watching Black Mass at an Odeon Screen Unscreen preview viewing.

Johnny Depp delivers one of the most mind blowing performances I've ever witnessed, really engagingly tense and at times skin crawling.

Some pacing issues though so all in all I'd give it an 8/10.

The Lookalike [2014]. Director: Richard Gray

5/10

Modern day film noir as a bunch of crooks accidentally kill a woman they needed to complete a deal and look to find a replacement.

*******
Sawdust and Tinsel [1953]. Director: Ingmar Bergman

8/10

I found this dull when I saw it decades ago but now enjoy its eccentricities as a circus owner's mistress gets involved with a small town actor.

*******
Arachnoquake [2012]. Director: Griff Furst

4/10

One of those Syfy channel movies that somehow got a Blu Ray release so you can see the cheap CGI giant pink spiders in HD.

*******
Tinker Bell [2008]. Director: Bradley Raymond

7/10

Rather sweet direct-to-video Disney spin-off.

*******
Plush [2013]. Catherine Hardwicke

5/10

Emily Browning as a rock band singer who cheats on her husband with the lead guitarist. As this is a Blumhouse movie it's no surprise he turns to to be a psycho stalker who's into torture porn. Twilight director Hardwicke's career takes a downward turn.
