Ironman 3 8/10
Another high quality Marvel film.A lot of people say this is the weakest of the Ironman solo films but I liked it a lot.Yes bit OTT when all the iron suits fly around but what superhero film is grounded in reality

Upstream Colour (2013) no rating

Indie art-house, uncompromising in every way: non-linear narrative, unnatural or absent dialogue, abundant symbolism, quasi - abstract acting etc

Similar to Terrence Malick's 'To the Wonder' in some ways, although that film is far more accessible.

There will be as many opinions about the meaning of this film as there are people who view it, imho there are several unrelated philosophical points being debated: the nature of identity , the purpose of story-telling in film, the purpose served by memory, the nature of love.

No rating as it very much depends what one expects out of a movie, or indeed whether the director wishes 'Upstream Colour' to be viewed as a movie in the traditional sense.

Whiplash (2014) - 8/10 for me. Some great performances by Simmons and Teller. Pity it all went south for Teller with Fantastic Four...

I've just put "Brokeback Mountain" on.

One of my favourite films of all time. I can't believe that it's 10 years old already!

Closed Circuit [2013]. Director: John Crowley

6/10

Conspiracy thriller following a terrorist attack in London. The locations help.

*******

The Great Gatsby [2013]. Director: Baz Luhrmann

3/10

A colourful mess with DiCaprio as wooden as ever. Can't someone find Luhrmann some more commercials to make to keep him away from features.

Room 237. I laughed just once, at the idiotic suggestion that stanley kubick personally faked all the Apollo moon landings. Otherwise, this is extremely tedious utterly dire rubbish. made years after kubrick died, this is is deeply insulting to him

Max Payne - 6/10

I liked the film noir-esque style. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting but it could have been even better.

The Walk 8/10 Good movie, especially the recreation of the twin towers and the special effects of the walk itself which by all accounts was even more hair raising than they showed in the movie . Well acted by the lead guy playing Phillippe Petit and some good supporting actors. I was squirming in my seat much of the time - (is that a good reccommendation??)

Very true. You need to listen to it on a good quality sound system to hear every word. Then it all makes a lot of sense.
