National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation [1989]. Director: Jeremiah Chechik

5/10

Sporadically amusing slapstick.

*******
Coffee Town [2013]. Director: Brad Copeland

6/10

Amusing indie comedy.

*******
The Serpent and the Rainbow [1988]. Director: Wes Craven

6/10

Craven's zombie movie takes the genre back to its roots (based on a non-fiction book) in Haiti. The location filming helps with the atmosphere though there's an over-reliance on dream scenes for many of the scares which makes me wish for Romero's flesh-eaters.

Southpaw. Funny, though not meant to be. 5/10.

Halloween (1978) - 6/10
First time I've seen it. It was alright, I guess they made the protagonists friends really annoying on purpose so we'd like to see them be killed off?
Maybe its one of those films were you had to be there at the time to get into it.

Grumpy Old Men [1993]. Director: Donald Petrie

7/10

Grumpier Old Men [1995]. Director: Howard Deutch

6/10

Jack Lemmon & Walter Matthau sparring together in the title roles, not forgetting Burgess Meredith who steals a few scenes from them with his ad libs (the latter title being his final feature film).

Mississippi Grind - Great character piece, Reynolds is really good here and Ben Mendelsohn is superb (fast becoming my favourite actor around at present) 8/10

Deadly Circuit (France - 1983) 8.5/10

A private detective is reminded of a daughter he has never seen by a beautiful but deadly jet setting thief.

Isabelle Adjani has claims to being the most beautiful woman ever to appear on film, she also reputedly has quite deep a personality and it shows here in this complex film.

The Fourth Kind - 3/10

A woman is haunted by a owl. The rest of the film is as unintentionally silly. Unless you're really into your supernatural films, don't bother.

Excellent film. I always imagined it was written as a stage play.

Fantastic Four (2015)

Fantastic Chore more like. Oh dear, back to the drawing board chaps.

4/10

Blow Out

Enjoyed this back in the early 80s, Travolta is exceptional here but it's badly dated now, full of hammy acting, appalling soundtrack music and one of the most ridiculous endings I've seen.

5/10
