The Revenant (2015) Dances with Bears, one of the most eagerly anticipated films of the year.............not good at all. This is a long way from the brilliance of Birdman. 4/10

The Hateful Eight (2015) Comic book style western proving once again that Tarantino owns shares in cinema concessionary booths. Lots of people getting whacked punctuated by witty scenes with Jackson ( Jackson whacking people in funny scenes as well ). This one looks like it could be made into a play,i don't think that's a coincidence. 5/10 for me ( 10/10 for Comic Book/James Bond/Star Wars fans)

But it's not even out in cinemas yet, never mind DVD

(Not properly supporting our film industry, I see; how very naughty of you )

I usually try and watch films at the cinema, although in some cases if a film peaks my curiosity, and I know nobody else (that I know) wants to watch it, I'll view it elsewhere. Thankfully, I'm glad I didn't spend money on it. It was terrible. That, and I thought it was released back in November? The copy I watched was pretty clear. Unusual for something that hasn't been released yet.

Pixels - Latest Adam Sandler film about aliens resembling video game characters invading Earth. Sandler should've taken a back seat and let the special effects and action scenes take over but alas, it's still an Adam Sandler film. 4/10

Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance - A washed up Hollywood actor tries to revitalise his career on stage whilst battling his inner demons. It's also about actors and ther egos, films critics and a bunch of other stuff. Not everything gels together. An admirable film but one that I found hard to fully embrace. 7/10

The Gift - Joel Edgerton directs his first film, a dramatic thriller and it turns out to be one of the big surprises of the year. 8/10

Crazy, Stupid, Love - All star cast rom-com. One of those 'intertwining' types where A listers come and go. 5/10

Inside Out - Surprised so many people took to this film. It's good but not great, not one of Pixar's exceptional films IMO. I was pleasantly surprised to learn afterwards that it was from the director of Up since I felt both films shared that chaotic sensibility. 7/10

Tomorrowland - Disney sci-fi adventure with so much potential that is ultimately a disappointment. 5/10

Four Christmases - Generic Vince Vaughn rom-com. 2/10

Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 5/10 - A remake in all sense of purpose, makes you wonder what a true sequel would have been like, this just seems to make up for the mess that was episodes 1-3. If you hadn't seen A New Hope then you should enjoy the ride, if you have then stick on the original and wait for episode VIII...unless it's a remake of Empire.

Just rewatched Repo Man [1984]. The Iggy Pop title tune is amazing. Lyrics here.

I was riding on a concrete slab
Down a river of a useless land
It was such a beautiful day
I heard a witchdoctor say
Ill turn you into a toadstool

Also worth a note - the punk band Circle Jerks acoustic cameo playing this song. Lyrics here.

In a sluggish economy inflation, recession
Hits the land of the free
Standing on an employment line
Blame the government for hard times

We just get by, however we can
We all gotta duck when the shit hits the fan

Foxcatcher - Ominous film about the true story of an heir to a multi-billion dollar fortune who becomes obsessed with wrestling and takes Mark Schultz under his wing to get an Olympic gold medal. The relationship between the two became sour and the tale ended in tragedy. Great performances from the main cast but it's all about the atmosphere which is very oppressive, you get the impression early on that the story is going to end in tears (even if you're not familiar with the real life event).

Focus. Was quite good after 40 minutes.. Stuck with it as it was pretty dire at the beginning trying to be too clever..

Best film of the year. I really hope Brie Larson wins the Oscar for her performance. Jacob Tremblay was brilliant also.

I'm revising this down to a 4/10. I didn't enjoy Shakespeare In Love but it is a better film than 5 Children and It.
