SUNSHINE ON LEITH - 9/10
lovely little scots musical, done very "normally" with no pretenses, and everyone shines

One of my favourite films. Not a fan of musicals. Had someone given me a synopsis: Scottish musical to Proclaimers hits I wouldn't have touched it with a barge pole but it was a fantastic surprise.

Anything with squaddies doon the pub, pinting away on Tennants Lager, before bursting into song, has to be a bit special. The ending had me giddy.

I think I'd give it 10/10 for the uplifting, feelgood factor and unpretentiousness.

American Hustle [2013]. Director: David O. Russell

7/10

Amusing tale, based on a true scandal, as the FBI hire a pair of con artists to mount a sting on various corrupt politicians and the mob. Robert DeNiro appears unbilled as the mob boss and Christian Bale's dialect coach did a good job (to my English ears) making him sound convincingly Bronx.

*******
Permissive [1970]. Director: Lindsay Shonteff

6/10

Innocent young woman heads to London and stays with her more experienced friend who's in a relationship with a rock singer. Soon the innocent girl is bonking everyone in sight (a working title for the film was Suzy Superscrew). The rock band Forever More were a real band though they play fictional characters in the film.

*******
The Color of Money [1986]. Director: Martin Scorsese

7/10

Some more American hustling with Paul Newman reprising his role from the 1961 film The Hustler acting as a mentor and rival to Tom Cruise's annoying flashy pool shark.

I only know the one Proclaimers' song and it did make for a rousing climax with loads of extras.

Someone's Youtubed it for those who don't want to see the rest of the film:

I'm such a donut; in an earlier post I said I watched and liked Inception but guessed the ending. Durr...It wasn't Inception - it was Shutter Island. Good film.

I did watch Inception around that time too, hence my bungle. Liked premise and effects, so was disappointed to find it just didn't engage me at all.

Yes. There are 2 sequels also. Petals On The Wind and If There Be Thorns. They have all been on the Lifetime channel already. I'm sure the sequels will be on Channel 5 in due course.

Finally watched it for the first time! Very good, loved all the stunts/martial arts. I'll be honest and say I found it a bit difficult to keep up with in places, but still very good

Amy (2015) - 7/10

Very good documentary, but wow her father comes across poorly in it.
