A Serious Man - I've re-watched a few other Coen brothers films recently, and I thought I'd give this another chance. I actually enjoyed it this time, and will definitely re-watch it again at some point. Just goes to show that you have to be in the right mood (and not too tired) to fully appreciate any film.

Grim, but with a great cast.

Set in Stalin's Russia it revolves around a serial child killer and the fact that you're 'not allowed' to have killers in the Soviet utopia.

8/10

The Hateful Eight (2015) 7/10

Good, but not one of Tarantino's waeker efforts.

The Revenant 5/10. This was really slow and way too long. No way should it win best picture at the Oscars but I would have no issue if Leo won best actor. His performance was one of the few good things about this film

Man of Steel (2013) - no grade

It was so dull and predictable that my brain and eyes wanted to kill me. Especially during that moment when a certain person went back to rescue a dog.

Next on my list: 3:10 to Yuma (2007)

The Mask of Zorro (1998) - Mostly enjoyed it. I actually thought the action scenes went on for too long, but I do rate it as a good film.

Saw Skyfall on the TV last night and was pleasantly surprised. Bloated and overly long but some nice set pieces and that Ben Whitshaw stole every scene

I went to see the big short. 7.5/10. Fantastic ensemble cast and great acting especially from Christian Bale and Steve Carell.

I left feeling rather depressed

Deliverance 8/10

I never noticed before but John Voigts son was played by Charlie Boorman (John Boorman's son).

Citizen x with Steven rea is a better version of this event in my opinion if you ever get chance to see it.

I have that on DVD, but I like both for different reasons.

Fair play..just didn't know if you knew of the other one..bleak and frustrating both films..enjoyed them both...just love the underplaying of rea, you live his relief on capture with him.

The Big Short (2015) - 8/10

I enjoyed the performances, especially Bale and Carell. Pitt could be replaced with an empty cardboard box and it wouldn't make a huge difference which goes for most films he is in.

Morally all over the place. Ratings agencies come out as the biggest scam artists going. The big banks get lambasted for creaming a couple of percent a year on a $500bn market. The "heroes" of our tale make 9 figure profits for themselves using leveraged bets with largely other peoples money.

A few billion dollars are made here and there while trillions go down the swanny.

Tokyo Tribe (2014) - 4/10

Dear god. I'm too old for this.

At least it's a typical Sion Sono film as a spell in the musical film genre. See it for yourself with this clip (the only one I could find with fairly accurate English subtitles) at YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02ykLEy25gQ.

EDITED: Found another: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YerErXV5zDo. Watch this first.
