I'm not keen on any of the recent films. Too over the top.”

Conquest is a bit of a hidden gem imo, I love the nods to historical slavery and Ricardo Montalban is just superb. My favourite of the original sequels.

Re-watched Zoolander last night as we're thinking about maybe going to see the sequel, despite the "mixed" reviews. Not actually as funny as I remembered it so maybe we won't bother...!

I watched Conquest last night,. Turns out I hadn't seen the entire film before, just a few bits where they're running around with guns. Must say I thought it was a poor film. I'll probably re-watch the first three again, but I definitely won't re-watch Conquest.

Now I just have Battle to watch, but it might have to wait because I've started re-watching the first season of Columbo (again).

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

First quarter nearly made me comatose but it picked up enough to be quite dull. Lily James' heaving bosom was impressive though

3/10

Yes I'm in the minority with my love for Conquest. The story just really appealed to me and of course it plays out the rise of Caesar which is great. Battle is attrocious, it's so low budget it looks like the whole movie was filmed in a farmer's field, and the cheap masks on the ape extras are just pitiful. A shame such an epic series went out on such a low.

Ill Manors [2012]. Director: Ben Drew

7/10

East End tale where almost every character is an addict, a dealer, a prostitute or a gang member. Writer/director Drew is aka rapper Plan B. Riz Ahmed turns in another fine performance with Ed Skrein (another rapper) making his film debut on the way to taking over Jason Statham's role in the Transporter film franchise (via a brief stint in Game of Thrones).

The Recruit [2003]. Director: Roger Donaldson

6/10

Al Pacino recruits Colin Farrell for CIA training. Cue the romantic subplot and "shock" twist at the end.

*******
The Suspect [2013]. Director: Stuart Connelly

5/10

Ridiculous concept movie as black scientists pose as bank robbers to expose racist white cops.

I finally got around to watching Battle. I didn't think it was very well made, but I mostly enjoyed it for some reason, and will probably re-watch it at some point. They could have made the mutants a bit more mutated, though. They just looked as if they had a bit of grey paint rubbed on their cheeks. I'll definitely keep the Blu boxset, anyway.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip 6.5/10.

Not bad, but I preferred the earlier films, and I hope they don't make another one, 4's plenty, in fact they should've stopped at the second one I reckon.
