What idiot keeps removing my posts? I had a perfectly reasonable post on this thread last night and it seems to be gone?

Fargo 8.5 / 10

Watched on Netflix. Seen it before but not in a long time, enjoyed it more this viewing

No Escape

If you take it as purely a action film it is bloody good and very intense. A lot more violent than I thought it would be.

8/10

Unfriended 8/10 - much better than I thought it would be.

I watched a German film called Die Ehe Der Maria Braun last night.

It was rather bizarre but oddly enjoyable.

Sicario - 7/10

Don't think I've ever seen a film before where the lead character was so pointless. You could take Emily Blunt out and it would barely make a difference.

Squanto: A Warrior's Tale [1994]. Director: Xavier Koller

5/10

Disneyed up version of the true story of an American indian taken to London in 1605.

Ghost Theater. J-horror becoming less frightening but more stupid. 5/10.

Run All Night - 6/10

Decent action film from Neeson

Bad Boys (1983) 7/10

On Amazon Prime

Haven't watched this in about 25 years. It's one of a few Sean Penn films that I liked and I think the first time that I'd seen him. I wasn't expecting much but to my surprise it hasn't aged that badly. Quite enjoyed it.

Identity - 6/10

I deducted a point because of a weak spot at the ending (explained in spoilers below)

Spoiler
the final twist being that the child was the murderer. Sick of evil kids now!

The Book Thief [2013]. Director: Brian Percival

9/10

Sweet tale of a young girl growing up in a charming German village in the 1940's. OK, there are nasty Nazis burning books and a Jew hiding in the basement. Wonderfully acted by the leads.

*******
Who's that Knocking at my Door? [1967]. Director: Martin Scorsese

5/10

Scorsese's first feature is a slight, disjointed black & white tale featuring a notabale debut from Harvey Keitel.

*******
Cape Fear [1991]. Director: Martin Scorsese

5/10

The classic 1962 Film Noir remade as a psycho thriller. Robert Mitchum, Gregory Peck and Martin Balsam, stars of the original, have cameo roles in this one. De Niro plays the psycho with relish.

The Face of an Angel - 6/10 and that's being generous - just left me confused about what kind of film the film was meant to be??!

I saw "Once Upon a Time In the West" for the third (or was it fifth?) time. The music is getting better and better <3

It was actually an accident, my net stopped working for, like, 3 hours @3 AM, and I couldn't sleep...so I remembered couple old , classic movies a friend gave me in 2010 (!) to "educate myself"

Furious 7

Spotlight

Well-acted, well-directed, well-written, well-meaning etc. Thoroughly proficient Academy winner that'll probably go down as well-regarded rather than some sort of classic. Nevertheless, a well-earned 7.5/10

Starry Eyes*

Actress goes to Hell in search of fame. Familiar stuff, but startlingly realised in its own grimy milieu (think: Argento meets Ferrrara) and the acting is a cut above the norm. Very brutal at times too. Perhaps a more artful touch was needed to really pull it off, but worth seeking out. 6.5/10

*character uses digital camera yet the sound fx used is of a 35mm autowind. Not the first time I've heard this in films.

Just watched this too and also thought it aged well, it took me right back to the VHS days of the early 80s can't believe it cost £2.50 nearly 35 years ago to get a video tape out for the weekend from the local radio rentals. They only had about 100 films to choose from too...
8/10 extra point for nostalgia reasons

Dirk Bogarde in a "true story" WW2 POW escape yarn.

The Big Short 7/10

Very well acted, a lot of it went over my head in terms of the technical side of things. Depressing though.

No Country for old Men [2007]. Directors: Joel & Ethan Coen

7/10

Psycho Javier Bardem roaming around Texas dispatching people with a bolt gun in pursuit of some drug money. Looks fabulous but with a slight plot.
