Boyz n the Hood [1991]. Director: John Singleton

8/10

Still the best film about life and death in South Central L.A.

*******
Rain Man [1988]. Director: Barry Levinson

8/10

Dustin does his autism stuff and bags an Oscar

*******
Devil's Tower [2014]. Director: Owen Tooth

4/10

Bargain basement British horror nonsense. Somehow Jason Mewes got himself a co-starring role in this.

American Gangster (2007) - 7/10

Predictable and rather bland at times, but gems can be found, which makes this rewatch rather enjoyable.

Lost in Translation 5/10

I thought I'd give it another try but it's still underwhelming.

Put Jack Nicholson in the leading role and it would have been more believable.

The Wild One. 7/10. partly still very good, partly hilarious cos badly dated. marlon brando is hypnotic, but mainly by leaning on things wirh his elbows and wearing a silly hat. lee marvin is the oldest juvenille delinquent ive ever seen. the implied comparison between motorcycle gangs and wild.west cowboys is forced. still fascinating though.

Grand Canyon 7/10

I saw this when it came out and didn't like it.

I'm not sure why as it's a pretty good film.

"Cutter's way" (1981) 8/10

Jeff Bridges as an accidental witness to a gruesome murder, pushed by war veteran John Heard to expose the perpetrator.

A simple, straightforward thriller serves as a vehicle for a deeply complex, bleak reflection on American society. John Heard would surely have been awarded an Oscar for his performance as Cutter had it not been for the timing of the film's release.

Warm Bodies on TV earlier. 8/10

As a Walking Dead fan it was fun to watch a light-hearted zombie movie with a happy ending, it was light, fun and Nicholas Hoult was terrific.

Interstellar - 4/10
Nothing happens for an hour. All actors seem to whisper every single line, had to put volume up to 65 (I normally have it on 16). The two kids were selfish idiots. Bland, clichéd characters. The two robots were the best thing about the film.
Undeniably pretty and no sound on the exterior space shots gets a thumbs up.

Terminator: Genisys - 5/10
Not as bad as I'd been expecting. But not good either.

Fight Club - 9/10
Still brilliant after 6 or 7 watches.

Les Miserables - 7/10

Michael - 5/10
(The one with John Travolta as the angel, not the one about the paedo with his cellar)

The Sword in the Stone - 4/10

Only Lovers Left Alive - (no rating!) - I don't know what to rate it. I have no clue what the point of the film was. Two hours of my life wasted.

Liberal Arts - 6/10 - I enjoyed it. But I think far more could have been done with it.

Paddington - Must be the 7th or 8th time I've seen this. Showing it new to relatives. Wonderful film.

The November Man - Glorified TV movie that was pretty uninvolving. A disappointment as I really like Pierce Brosnan.

The Blair Witch Project - Hadn't seen for many years but you still have to take your hat off for the creative invention. Still damn creepy as well.

ALMOST CHERRY - 7/10
fluffing light indy about the porn industry and ..... GASP ..... lesbian relationships

A GIRLS WALKS ALONE AT NIGHT - 7half/10
rockabilly vamp in modern iran which looks like 1950's america, glacial pacing but rather sweet

mind this, both watched in the middle of the night

interstellar - 8/10 - very good film although I couldn't always hear what some of the characters were saying and he last 30 minutes is a bit hard to follow.

I saw the devil - 7/10 pretty good and the acting is great.

Avengers: Age Of Ultron

Loved this, thought it was on a par with Guardians Of The Galaxy & Captain America Winter Soldier. Ultron's quips were hilarious and the cast are really sparking off each other nicely now. As always Hulk steals the show.

'Farewell, My Lovely' (1975) 7/10

Adaptation of the Raymond Chandler classic.

Robert Mitchum in probably the most cynical, world-weary Marlowe on screen. The film has an almost abstract feel at times which does not quite do it for me, although it is perhaps closest to the novel. It is as if you are expected to know Chandler's novel by heart, which is why I understand this to be the preferred adaptation by Marlowe/Chandler purists.
