Sands of Iwo Jima - Re-watch, but hadn't seen it for about 20 years. A good film. 8/10.
They Shoot Horse, Don't They? - Not a film to cheer you up. Well made and acted, though. Another 8/10. |

The Hooligan Factory [2014]. Director: Nick Nevern
2/10 Nevern writes, directs and stars and is useless at all three. Bonus point for killing off Danny Dyer's character in the first scene. |

Rambo 3 - Nowhere near as enjoyable as the first two films. Far too preachy (and smug). Don't think I'll be watching it again.

Hitman: Agent 47 - 5/10
Loosely based on the video game. Some solid action and nice set pieces. An awful dub job on Diana. Why do they keep making 47 develop a conscience? |

The X-Files: I Want To Believe - Sort of alright-ish. Not something I'd ever want to re-watch.

A Date to Die For - one of those TV movies they show on channel 5 which pass the time pretty effectively...

Jack Reacher
Par for the course Cruise vehicle. Nicely 70s influenced without nodding like a donkey (a Columbo-like plot, a no-frills car chase). This proved a low-key start to Reacher franchise, but another's on its way apparently. More of his expert charity shop dressing perhaps. Hey ho. 7/10 |

The Flying Squad [1940]. Director: Herbert Brenon
7/10 Sebastian Shaw as a Scotland Yard cop on the trail of gangleader Jack Hawkins, with Hollywood import Phyllis Brooks as the love interest. ******* The Flintstones In Viva Rock Vegas [2000]. Director: Brian Levant 3/10 How Fred met Wilma. Looks great but the script is dire. |

La Grande Illusion [1937]. Director: Jean Renoir
8/10 Anti-war POW drama. A French aristocrat having more in common with his aristocratic German captor than with his lower class compatriots. When the Nazis invaded France Goebbels declared this film to be "Cinematic Public Enemy No. 1", unwittingly preserving the negative from destruction by transporting it to Berlin (from where it was seized with the Soviets and left lurking in film vaults before the present restoration could be completed in 1999). ******* Number Six [1962]. Director: Robert Tronson 6/10 Another Edgar Wallace mystery from Merton Park Studios. |
