L'Appartement [1996]. Director: Gilles Mimouni

8/10

Wonderful Hitchcockian French film where the plot gradually reveals itself via flashbacks from different character viewpoints. Vincent Cassell as the newly engaged guy who chances to see a lost love from 2 years previously (Monica Bellucci who became Madame Cassell after meeting on this film). First and so far only cinema feature from Gilles Mimouni.

Keeping Rosy [2014]. Director: Steve Reeves

5/10

After a bad day at the office a woman accidentally kills her cleaner, then aiming to dispose of the cleaner's car finds a toddler on the back seat. The plot then unravels quickly as she gets all maternal whilst trying to conceal what she has done.

Winters Tale (2014) 1/10
I read the book Winters Tale years back, and found that
author Mark Helprin had found a way of merging the real
world with his fantasy one.The book worked, and was a
charming little read.
The FILM on the other hand is a steaming pile of cack!
Russell Crowe using what he imagines to be an Irish
accent;Colin Farrell winning the worst haircut in a film,
ever, award; and a totally incomprehensible plot (or lack
of same!)
Will Smith apparently turned up later as the Devil, but I
had abandoned it long before he showed up. I have
watched some real clunkers in my time, but this pile of
crap takes the biscuit as unwatchable gibberish!

National Treasure: Book of Secrets - More of the same from the original NT though I liked this better because it also has Ed Harris.

Deadheads, okay, but considering it should have been right in my wheelhouse disappointing 5/10

The Case of the Whitechapel Vampires, on the other hand should be pretty risible, but Max Headroom a very good Sherlock, and a decent case, probably 7.5 out of ten.

Seve [2014]. Director: John-Paul Davidson

7/10

Documentary on the life (and death) of the great Seve Ballesteros. Fuzzy old clips, voice-over comments from his contemporaries and some dramatised scenes of the boy Seve learning to play.

*******
Felony [2013]. Director: Matthew Saville

5/10

Aussie film about a cop involved in a hit & run after having a few drinks who then tries to cover things up with the aid of his boss.

*******
Northern Soul [2014]. Director: Elaine Constantine

5/10

1970's nostalgia.

*******
Devil's Knot [2013]. Director: Atom Egoyan

7/10

Dramatisation of a famous murder case (The West Memphis Three). Effectively done.

*******
Very Good Girls [2013]. Director: Naomi Foner

6/10

Two New York teens try to lose their virginity before heading off to college and end up chasing the same guy. Dakota Fanning seems believable in her role but Elizabeth Olsen seems too old and worldly wise.

Das Boot - gripping war film about the crew of a German U-Boat in WW2. When I was at college I had a lecturer who served on submarines in WW2 (on our side) and he was full of praise for how realistic this movie was.

saw Independence day last night was OK not as good as the first one but I give it a 6 out of 10.
our little cinema must have had a new sound system put in as was so much louder in there and far more bass you can feel now.

Sound of Her Voice

Spooky low-budgeter. Couple investigate cult leader claiming to be from the future. Interesting premise with a few tingly moments, but a little too contrived and too coolly executed to fully engage. 5.5/10

Blood Diamond

Leo's comedy accent the highpoint in this slick, preachy Hollywood bilge-fest. 3/10
