I also saw this back in the week but I gave MELANCHOLIA a 5 out of 10.

CHAPPiE

Really enjoyed it. Had echoes of Blomkamp's first movie "District 9" with some of the themes. I also think, as with that movie, that Blomkamp is getting first rate special effects from whoever is doing them. I'm excited to see what he would do with his mooted Alien picture.

The Hobbit, the last one. On Netflix.
Made me want to watch the first Lord of the Rings again.

What if? 5/10

I don't think that Daniel Radcliffe is quite ready to be the romantic lead.

The Rebound 7/10

Really enjoyed it.

The Man Who Would Be King

John Huston's colourful Kipling yarn told with bold strokes and good humour. Much to enjoy with great work from the leads (in particular Michael caine - who here sounds like he's impersonating himself), but it never quite comes across as the classic many make it out to be. Too much of a lark, perhaps, and it never feels like there's that much at stake. 7/10

The Equalizer

Note to Russian Mafia: When taking on the Equalizer try not to do it on his home turf, which just so happens to be a DIY shop. He has a very particular set of tools.

Denzel goes bang-bang in slick reboot type-thing that sadly drifts away badly from its early, moody promise. It's certainly no Man on Fire. 5.5/10

Watched "On Moonlight Bay" 1951 on Sunday afternoon. Not seen it in years but still love it.

Then Sunday night I watched "Stranger by the Lake" 2013. Was not sure what to expect and was unsure if I would like it but I found it mesmerising. The lead actor was great and gorgeous, lol. The actual film really had me transfixed.

San Andreas (2015) Not good, i think they tried to inject some comedy into a disaster film but then just ended up with a really bad disaster film, it has it laughs but i couldn't make it to the end, life is too short to waste on films like this. Don't bother/10

Watched 'Dredd' (2012) and 'Dillinger' (1973) today. First time I'd seen either of them, and they are both very good films imo. Loads of great action in both of them.

Cinderella - Kenneth Brannagh's live action adaptation of the classic fairy tale is fun if at times overly saccharine.

7/10

Unfinished Business - Vince Vaughn goes to Europe on a business trip with Davie Franco and Tom Wilkinson to clinch a deal and get one over on his boss (Sienna Miller). Often crass (as it is with these types of movies where Americans go over to 'Urope') but I did laugh a couple of times.

4/10

Beasts of the Southern Wild - Follows a young girl in the post Hurricane Katrina fallout. Borders between social realism and the fantastical and often reminded me of a Malick film.

8/10

Stranger by the Lake (L'inconnu du lac) - Compelling drama about a guy who falls for a murderer whilst visiting a cruising spot by a lake.

7/10

Assault on Precinct 13 - John Carpenter action movie about a raid on a police station. The concept is great but boy does this film show its age from its wonky acting to its dialogue.

6/10

Police Story: Lockdown. 4/10

The latest film in the Jackie Chan police story franchise. No where near as good as the earlier films in the series. This is a very different film from Chan. If you love the fight scenes, slapstick comedy that Chan is known for, then avoid this. Its a shame really, as I love Chans movies. As a standalone film, I would have probably rated it slightly higher. Since its part of the police story franchise, I will give it a lower score.

I love this film. Something quite relaxing about it imo.

I recently watched The Heat - 6.5/10
First role I've seen McCarthy in, I thought her character was funny
