The Good The Bad and the Ugly (1966/2003): 10/10

Blazing Saddles (1974): 8/10

I'd never seen it before and enjoyed it a lot - very funny Gene Wilder was a great comic talent, RIP It deals with racism but makes it hilarious, and the racist characters are idiots

The Wolf of Wall Street. Even after all these years, Scorsese still has it! 8.25/10

The Nice Guys - violent and very funny private eye thriller from Shane Black. Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling are brilliant and work really well together - Gosling is a revelation as I've always found him a little bland but here he shows a real gift for comedy

Withnail and I - 8/10 Really liked this, quotable yet quite sad

I love this movie - one of my all-time favourites!

Watched 2 fantastic DVDs yesterday:-

'71 - Brilliant stuff. Brutal & surreal. I'm a bit biased as I like Jack O'Connell's work to date, but he excels again in this.

[SPOOKS] The Greater Good - As good as anything out of Hollywood of he same genre & they probably have 10x the budget too.

Deepwater Horizon. The movie kinda flew by. I didn't feel like I'd watched a full film, by the time the credits rolled up. It was a little dull, which I feel bad for saying.

The Nice Guys - 6.5/10

Started off well with some very funny moments but lost its way.

Jason Bourne: 6/10

Started off slowly but picks up the along the way. I found the constant back and forth cutting between perspectives
Spoiler
(of the CIA tracking Bourne, and then seeing what just happened/is happening through his eyes) annoying
- this disrupted things and really reduced tension imo

Inglorious Basterds 4/10

Self indulgent twaddle from Tarantino. A few good scenes and a superb performance from Christopher Waltz aren't enough to save it. The violence left a bitter taste.

Fallen (8/10)
Some years old now, this Denzel Washington film starts
out as a cop/serial killer story. But then it soon turns into
something much darker! I caught a few minutes of it when
it was shown on TV once, was hooked, and got the DVD.
This is about the fourth time I have watched it, and aside
from a couple of cliched moments, it has the ingredients
to keep ME at least, thouroughly hooked for the two hour
duration. John Goodman is also very good in this, as is
James Gandolfini; Donald Sutherland is more or less wasted
in a 'phoned it in' kind of enlarged cameo role.

Swiss Army Man - My wife and I really enjoyed it, but I can definitely understand the mixed reviews. One thing is certain, you wont have seen a movie quite like it before.

Death WIsh 3 (1985) - I don't think I've ever seen a leading actor put less effort into a role than Charles Bronson does in this film. His performance is beyond wooden. It also might be the (unintentionally) funniest film I've ever seen. Difficult to give it a rating, but I know it's something that I'm going to re-watch eventually.

Gladiator (2000) 10/10

Ip Man - Formula martial arts film that is held together by intense fight scenes and a charismatic lead actor in Donnie Yen.

7/10

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1: More politically intriguing than its predecessors though not necessarily a better film.

6/10

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 - More talking in this final installment and it's not really what you want with an end. The direction and the acting is now on autopilot. In the end I think the franchise ended with a whimper.

5/10

The Riot Club - Based on the notorious Bullingdon Club at Oxford. The real life rumours are far more interesting than what's in this film.

6/10

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - This second installment has always been one of my favourites of the series. A darker film than the first yet still retains enough of the atypical Columbus magic which the director sometimes gets maligned for.

X-Men: Days of Future Past - Time travel films do my head in but there's enough to like about this film that made me put aside the head scratching plot. I liked this far more than First Class even though this film is far from perfect.

Wreck-It Ralph - I liked the inclusion of characters from old arcade games, but a great deal of the film didn't hold my interest. A disappointment. It certainly looks good, though. 6/10

If I Stay [2014]. Director: R.J. Cutler

6/10

Chloë Grace Moretz wandering around in an NDE deciding whether to come out of a coma or join her parents and brother on the other side.

*******
Dead Man on Campus [2014]. Director: Alan Cohn

5/10

Another mediocre college comedy.
