Can only assume people who say The Albert doesn't sound like a bar haven't been to Shoreditch / Old St/ Hoxton? Sure it doesn't sound like a 'trendy'bar in a local high St but it could easily pass as the name of a bar in those parts of East London...

How could it not be trendy when it's been christened after Phil's Prince Albert?

Remember he spoke of Ronnie walking into his bar ages ago? It was in an early appearance of Vincent. Richard Blackwood said his character is a "more modern type of villain". I'd like to see him with other criminals played by extras now and again, maybe coming in and out of the Albert / Pearls. He's got family which is good. Him and Claudette are interesting characters. Donna and Kim have grown on me since he turned up. They've both improved since his arrival and with their connection to Vincent. Giving him family in the Square suggests he's not leaving any time soon. I would be so happy if we see the end of the Mitchells. (Cue Mitchell fans saying they won't be axed. It doesn't stop me from wishing they would just leave or better still get killed off in a gas explosion ) I think some oldie fans just prefer nostalgia and characters that have been there years. Nothing wrong with that, each to their own but I find the Mitchells so boring I'd like for Vincent to have a brother turn up and help Vincent put Phil and Buster in their place!”

Great post.

The worship of the Philth long ago reached religious proportions by TPTB.

I am absolutely sick of the sight of him 'owning' everyone in ludicrous ways that ruin all the other character/s involved.

Vincent's biceps are bigger than his entire body.

I know that Steve will never be axed which makes all of Mitchell's storylines even more incredibly boring and predictable than they already are.

I see Kathy asks him for help shortly - no doubt big bad gangster Gavin will be kissing his feet within days.

Yawn.

I have to ask, if you hate Phil Mitchell so much why is practically every single one of your posts in the soap forum about him? What about the show currently is keeping you watching and putting up with Phil's presence?

Vincent may have big muscles but he's a joke of a character played by an atrocious actor. If Phil is ever kicked off his throne I'd hope it's by someone who can stand alongside the greats like Den Watts, Steve Owen, Dan Sullivan and Johnny Allen who battled with Phil previously. If Vincent defeats Phil and starts owning the square I think I'll piss myself laughing.

I am entitled to my opinion.

I do not watch the show for Mitchell's preposterous antics - I watch it for all of the other characters.

As far as I am concerned there are two shows.

One involving the Philth's storylines where everybody knows the inevitable ending before they have begun - he wins.

And everyone else's.

Why should my annoyance of Mitchell stop me from watching the show - or commenting on here for that matter?

You dislike certain characters that is obvious from your posts.

If TPTB stopped all the King Cockroach crap he would actually be far more interesting

You like him I don't.

Fair enough - this is a forum after all.

Rant over.

I agree. EastEnders and that god awful Carter spin off.

He's the King of Walford. It's been 25 years. It's time to accept it.

The storylines Phil is involved in are the only ones worth watching at the minute (in my opinion).

It shouldn't. But if you love the rest of the show so much then why is Phil the only topic you ever discuss?

Originally Posted by Keyser_Soze1:

As do most of us. The difference is we're capable of engaging in other discussions instead of only posting to repeat the same stuff about characters we dislike.

I agree. But I still don't want Vincent the Clown to be the one to take him down. It's an insult to all of Phil's much superior adversaries of the past. If he's going to be taken down it should at least be someone who can be taken seriously to make it worth the wait.

I like him as a character because his storylines are usually engaging. Feel free to disagree on that one I don't think he's a nice person or should get away with every vile deed but he's one of the main characters and has been for decades so I don't understand the resentment you have for him. I don't particularly like Ian Beale or think he's especially pleasant but he's part of the furniture so there's no point being outraged at his actions.

I often discuss other characters and storylines - look at my posting history.

And even with the Philth I like to have fun sometimes.

I do not have to accept that he will be the King of Walford forever because that is what makes the character such a bloody joke.

Because of him we will never again have any credible villains - just look at what a feeble mess they reduced Johnny Allen into once Steve returned. Imagine if Mick was 'owning' everyone for 25 years - I highly doubt you would be silent on the matter.

It was not really a rant because although I enjoy slagging off the Philth he is merely a soap character.

I save my actually rants for General where real life stories are far more annoying than anything TPTB could come up with for King Cockroach.

Just look at what those evil scumbags in China did to that poor Whale shark.

To be fair, Derek, Carl and Vincent could have been credible villains but they were abysmally written and acted from the get-go. That's hardly Phil's fault. The casting director needs to pack it in if you ask me. The storyliners are the ones making up these crappy characters that pale in comparison to Phil so they need to take the flack too.

Didn't the actor quit? What was the point of having him hand Phil his arse if he was just going to leave soon after? Might as well leave Phil on his throne until a long term villain comes along. Same would apply to Derek, Carl and Vincent if they weren't so pathetic and laughable. Maybe Gavin will be the one to finally dethrone Phil?

Mick is a weak willed character who walks around in his wife's pink dressing gown constantly seeking reassurance from her. It's highly unlikely he would ever "own" anyone. He stands there like a gormless dolt every time his vicious bitch of a mother and filthy rapist of a brother rocks up at The Vic to spew venom at poor Linda.

I do object to the domination of johnny come latelys who haven't put in the time and effort that long standing characers have. Particularly when they hardly interact with the rest of the cast. You've got me there.

I think that Derek could have been the one (despite no one liking him on here) to put the Philth down for good - after all why on earth did they not consult Jamie on how real villains actually behaved?

His dad is Freddie Foreman after all.

The entrance with Pat (of all people) running scared was electric.

He has been bloody good in other roles but the writing for him was so utterly appalling nobody could have saved the character - and again I blame TPTB for not wanting anybody to rival or topple Mitchell.

As for the topic on general I agree.

Utterly disgusting.

Especially when Kathy and Sharon try to explain to Gavin how they know each other

"she slept with my husband!"
"And she slept with mine!"

The entrance with Pat was a joke. Pat had spent all her life mingling with villains. There is no way she would have been that scared of Derek. It made his whole character a joke and no one could take him seriously after that.

I thought the whole point of that scene was to make him truly menacing because (as you say Scrabbler) Pat had indeed been around the criminal underworld for much of her life.

She had seen it all.

Unfortunately it was all downhill from there very quickly indeed.

Perhaps Gavin will be the credible villain the show really needs?

Time will tell.

They got Derek all wrong anyway. He was supposed to be a sad man who lived with his parents, they changed his backstory and his personality but it didn't connect with what we already knew. The character was a complete mistake.

Seriously don't get too excited over Gavin, the actor is heavily involved in theatre until the end of November. They have not said how long he is going to be in the show for, we don't know at its permanent.

I am really worried that Kath's whole return could be a total disaster.

DTS is playing with fire here.
