Maybe just Rita and Emily sat in front of ITV news, and we see the footage we saw on the news in Emmerdale, and they remark how terrible it is, before going about their business.

I actually think it's truly shocking that Corrie and Emmerdale have been on itv for forty/fifty years and they've never once had a crossover. It really seems like something that they would've done ages ago. Even having one character appear in both soaps in a similar time frame would be ace.

Missed opportunity for ITV's 60th. A crossover episode would've been great for both shows and would've attracted huge ratings.

It depends on whether you believe the soaps occupy a "shared universe", like the Marvel superhero films and the Universal monster films.

Brookside referenced events in Emmerdale at the time of the 1993 plane crash. There was also a Corrie/Emmerdale crossover video with Reg Holdsworth meeting Paddy and Mandy. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Emmerdale-Do.../dp/B00004D0A7

EastEnders has referenced Coronation Street as a TV programme watched by Dot. So that's one soap that's definitely in its own universe.

It could be a big shock that Val from Emmerdale arrives on the street having faked her death

She's dead. She made absolutely no attempt whatsoever to attempt to move herself out of the way when she saw the shard above her was slipping. She chose to stay and said "go on then, do your worst." Emmerdale have made it as explicitly clearly as they can without showing the actual impact, obviously due to it being pre-watershed. There's no logical way she could have survived.

Do I understand there's been a fictional helicopter crash in another soap, and people are wondering why Corrie doesn't mention it?

Maybe they should also mention the way the triffids are getting all over the place, the shocking number of zombie apocalypses going on, how Ken's first wife seems to be alive and well and living in Halifax, having given birth to Raquel, and the Martian invasion taking place in Woking.

Sometimes the best way to make people see how silly their idea/point is, is to take it to extremes.

Of course, sometimes it just makes you look like a git.

The problem with a crossover from two completely different programmes ( Holby and Casualty are different ) is that you would then put an end to the chances of an actor being able to leave one soap and join another with those two as a crossover would prevent that as they would be recognising the existence of each other.

Haha, that would be brilliant actually. What a great twist to find out that Valerie had elaborately faked her own death, and that Raquel was in fact Ken's daughter. No wonder they bonded so well over the French lessons! I can actually imagine it happening if they got completely desperate

..... and Duggie Ferguson would admit he used to run the Rover's & had a son who was a hairdresser!!

Also Jai Sharma would confess to once owning half of Streetcars & gambling it away, then been forced to deal in drugs to pay off the debts he'd accrued!!

Not necessarily many actors have had role of varinying degrees in one soap only to appear in the same soap at a later date as a different character.

EE - Leslie Schofield (Brian Wicks/Jeff Healey), Linda Henry (Lorraine Salter/Shirley Carter), Diane Parish (Lola Christie/Denise Fox), Ellen Thomas (Grace Olubami/Claudette Hubbard)

ED - Edward Peel (Tom Merrick/Tony Cairns)

Don't forget on Corrie randy Mrs Fanshaw who seduced Jason and later on became Carla Connor! Didn't Footballers Wives crossover to Bad Girls with Zoe Lucker being the actress whose character did something in Footballers Wives, got sent to prison and ended up on Bad Girls or did I dream that? It was such a long time ago I can't remember much of it.
EDIT It was Tanya Turner the character was called. I just looked it up

So long as she phrased it as "Scott Robinson from Neighbours", what's the problem? Many posters on here seem to fancy the equally fictional Carla,

Maybe even a mention of the Lucy beale murder investigation would of been cool as well

I can imagine Rita and Emily gossiping in the pub about it. Talking about Max being charged.

I think if Corrie characters started talking about the events in the lives of other soap characters it would start a bit of a precedent and it would be hard to know when to stop.

Fair enough if they were talking about them as fictional TV programmes like the rest of us, but they don't tend to do that much.

When is the last time we have even seen a character watch TV? They are too occupied anyway bumping into each other in the street, getting into silly scenarios or drinking in the Rovers or Bistro.
