Too many times I've simply answered no and not been offered anything else. It seems to be assumed by quite a lot of people that declining the offer of tea or coffee means you don't want a drink so I now always ask for the alternative myself, sometimes stating that I don't like tea/coffee, sometimes not. I must remember to offer them next time. ![]() To me, if you're having a drink, it's tea, with a very occasional coffee. I have fruit juice with breakfast. I would very, very rarely drink water - only if I've been gardening on a hot day and I'm very thirsty, I might have a glass of water while I'm waiting for the kettle to boil so I can make my tea. |

I don't drink either, I don't really like tea although I would drink coffee if there was no other option. I'm just not a fan of hot drinks in general, if I had to have a hot drink it'd be a hot chocolate. Never felt embarrassed about it though. Quote:
I can't understand people not drinking tea or coffee!........ What do you drink instead?..... There is nothing like the refreshing feel of having a cuppa or a coffee!... Water just doesn't do it for me!.......

When people offer you tea/coffee, the usual reply is either yes or no. When you tell them that you don't like either, you're not actually answering the specific question they asked. Their reaction is probably an off-guard exagerated attempt to show polite interest in something they don't really care about. If you just say no thanks, and either accept or decline any alternative offer of water or juice, the conversation/meeting/whatever will just progress without any ado.

Thirty seconds? That's just slightly reddish water. The daft woman should have made her own!
![]() ![]() ...How they thought that was a cp of tea we had no idea!!!.....Quote:

Never felt embarrassed about it though. At work I drink water all day, I get through pints of the stuff. I'll have a pint of Coke Zero with my tea and drink pints of juice/squash in the evening during the week (beer at the weekend or if eating out). As others have said if you just say "no thanks" people just assume you don't want a drink, I always say "No thanks, I don't like tea or coffee, could I have something cold please?" I think the problem with this scenario is!, does the host have other sorts of drinks on tap?... I don't normally drink cold drinks so very rarely have any in, if someone said that they didn't drink tea or coffee when I offered it to them the look on my face wold probably be, freight!, thinking what on earth can I offer him/her!..... |

Now that to me looks so unhealthy!.... I have members of my family that mainly only drink fizzy drinks and I just don't think it's good for you to only be drinking pop.... Turns out that the exact way to make it was to keep the tea bag in for thirty seconds and then whip it out and put a tiny amount of milk in it (so basically the weakest tea you can imagine without it actually being water).

My friend doesn't drink either tea or coffee. If we meet and go to cafe, she has a hot chocolate.

I have maybe a couple a week. I wish I did drink more, it'd be better for me than my addiction to Irn Bru.

I've never had a cup of tea in my life. Don't know why but just never fancied it. People are a bit surprised when I say I don't drink tea but most get over it in about 0.000003 seconds

I like tea, but don't like coffee. Love the smell of costa/starbucks though.
Like the feeling of hot drink and it also makes me relaxed, only have 1 or 2 cups a day max |

I've now gone back to drinking coffee, but it's decaff. In fact I got an Espresso machine, and make my own cappuccinos at home. I generally only have one a day, after my evening meal, with a bit of ceremony. Sometimes I'll have one made 1/3rd Espresso, 1/3rd milk, 1/3rd Tia Maria with sugar mixed in and chocolate sprinkled on the top. The fat and sugar and alcohol are what makes coffee an experience. |

I don't drink normal tea but I love a lot of different herbal and some fruit tea. I drink several cups of the stuff a day and peppermint after a meal is good for digestion. I also love hot chocolate in the winter. I don't drink coffee but I love the smell of it.

Can't stand the taste of coffee, and I don't make a huge effort to drink tea. Maybe a handful of cups of tea per year.
