Tablet stylus question (specifically samsung S pen)

I'm currently looking at the Samsung Galaxy tab A 9.7 inch. There are two models which are apparently exactly the same, except one model includes an S pen stylus, and the other doesn't. The one which includes the S pen is £60 more expensive.

So I wonder, what's so special about this S pen?

If I were do get the cheaper model, could I buy a stylus which would function more or less the same?

From my research, the S Pen is more than just a stylus. For example, the Samsung tablets can sense the Pen even when it's hovering over the screen and not touching it.

If you don't need the advanced Pen features, just buy the version without the Pen. You can use a finger or a normal 'dumb' stylus as you would normally.

Yeah, that's the thing I'm considering. What are these advanced pen features that come with the S pen, and can they be replicated if I buy another stylus?

I'd buy the cheaper model if the features are not that great.

For instance, the tablet can sense where the stylus is hovering over the screen or how hard (or lightly) it's being touched. For drawings and note taking it does produce far better results then a generic 'dumb' stylus which simply detects the screen is being touched.

I see. But if I buy the S pen separately (costs around £20), would it work on the cheaper samsung galaxy tab A?
