CS: Ditch the second Monday & Friday episode
I think Corrie would benefit massively from cutting its episode count down. Double bills on Monday's and Friday's have become nearly unwatchable. I've been a Corrie fan for years, but the situation is getting dire. Double bills are just packed with crap padding, actual plot developments are few and far between.
I'd suggest that Corrie had one episode on Monday, an hour long episode on Wednesday and one episode on Friday. I'd prefer three 30 minute episodes, but ITV would never cut down to three. |

I do think that there are so many episodes that they must struggle for stories and rehearsing. It would be good if they cut the episodes if the quality improved.

All the soaps would benefit from less episodes, I do agree.

The Friday one definitely needs to go. I think they should move one to Sunday. The recent Sunday episodes have been some of the best under Blackburn.

Is it really a problem?
Corrie's weekly output is about the same length as EE went you factor in the ad breaks, but EE is generally good quality since DTC took over and isn't packed with crap padding. |

EE and Corrie probably do have the same amount of actual screen time per week.
But, EE can effectively use their episodes, whereas Corrie simply can't. I'd much rather see less Corrie if it meant the quality increased. Removing an episode makes the writer/production team think more carefully about what lines/plots make it to screen. |

I am sure that CS would benefit from having fewer episodes.
I'd drop the second Friday showing. I think that the double episodes work on a Monday but no so much on Friday. I would just be good to round of the week with a single edition. |

I think CS could be better with episodes on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday & Friday just like it was. I love watching Corrie on a Sunday evening when they decide to schedule it.

I really don't mind the five episode week, if they can't produce that much quality material in 2015 it's a fault of the creative team they've assembled.
But, I would schedule it better. Five episodes over five days. Work with the BBC to solidify a schedule that benefits all. 7pm Emmerdale, 7.30 Coronation Street, 8pm EastEnders. 30 minute episodes Monday to Friday. But then ITV would lose their freedom to throw in hour longs whenever they please, so it's unlikely to happen. |
