Bruno Mars 'accused of stealing parts of Serbian singer's song for hit Uptown Funk'
JasonWatkins

Quote:
“Bruno Mars has been accused of stealing part of another artist's song for his hit Uptown Funk.

Serbian singer Snezana Miskovic, also known by her stage name Viktorija, 56, has reportedly claimed 80 per cent of the hit sounds like her song Ulice Mracne Nisu Za Devojke, or Dark Streets Are Not For Girls, which she recorded in 1984.

Viktorija has had a string of hits and was once voted Best Female Singer by Pop Rock magazine in 1989.

The star alleged: "Their song Uptown Funk contains 80 percent of my tracks. How much of it are you allowed to take as inspiration for your song?”

I suppose more accurately it would be Mark Ronson, but anyway.

This is the original song she's on about and I must say, there are similarities - and saying "80 percent" of the song is the same, for me at least, would actually be quite fair.

Think they have a point but most music today is samples of old tracks anyway

This is nothing, wait until the Really Wild Show sue them.

After what happened with Blurred Lines, i can't say it looks good for this either.

I wonder why it takes so long for these sort of cases to come to light. Uptown funk has been around since late last year, and now the person has decided to speak up.

That song sounds a lot more like D.I.S.C.O than it does Uptown Funk.

I thought that too. It seems strange to have waited for so long, especially as it was such a huge hit.

I don't really see too many similarities. The intro is sorta similar I guess, but once the vocals kick in, the two songs sound almost nothing alike.

80% is pushing. It's more like 20%.

Imo, the other song sounds more like Stool Pigeon by Kid Creole And The Coconuts rather than Uptown Funk, in fact, I don't think the songs are that similar.

UF apparently 'embodies' portions of a song called 'All Gold Everything' by Devon Gallaspy and Nicholaus Williams (??) and they are credited on the record along with Mark Ronson, Bruno Mars, Jeff Bhasker and Philip Lawrence.

It actually has a lot of similarities to a song from High School Musical 'get ya head in the game'. I had been telling everyone this for months and then I found this mash up of both of the songs which made me realise I wasn't going mad and they were similar ...

Surprised Prince hasn't got a lawsuit filed.

What an instance of ^#&hole accusations (and shabby press) when Mars is held responsible for a song where all he does is SING (well also dance). The Mirror really is trash--facts don't matter at all.

I hope this'REBECCA POCKLINGTON' (the so-called journalist) is proud of ignoring a fact everyone everywhere knows about the song (that Mark Ronson wrote it, not Bruno).

There are similarities to "Absolute" by Scritti Politti also, but nothing worth complaining about.

Whever i hear uptown Funk i find myself singin the words to Walk The Dinosaur by Was (Not Was). I don't know whether they've credited them, but there are a lot of similarities.
