They'll have to:

- Deal with a very poliarizing family i.e The Carters. In addition, the family have only been there for nearly 2 years and have already been given 7-years worth of storylines... What on earth more can be done with them?

-The Beales: Provided that an outcome has been planned already, an EPwould be terrified if they were appointed whilst the storyline is still ongoing. IMO whilst the storyline is fantastic, the only way I can see the Beales being salvaged is by Jane handing herself in? Otherwise they'd all have to go down! Even if the storylines has ended before a new EP arrive - he or she will still be left with a big mess because it has dispersed the entire clan.

- Kat's son: They'll need to be clever in terms of trying to avoid all previous continuity without retconning it too much that it just feels completely forced!

These are just some of the issues which I worry most about. Surely an insider of the show will have to be appointed next as they will need someone who truly had been avidly watching and has done for quite some time!

Thoughts? Some say Sarah Phelps, but I just can't see it myself..

DTC isn't going anywhere
He's been at the helm for 2 years now, so we could almost bet that he is surely by now - halfway through his time on the show... Whilst the show is in a good place right now, it could definitely be better. I am hoping to hear news of him stepping down in the New Year. That would be a nice enough length of a tenure as his work would still air until April and then pave the way for a new era!

His ideas just aren't really there. The Carter overload, block storytelling and dragging out storylines is what is causing his unpopularity. Stacey's key is a prefect example, Ryan Malloy's ridiculously shot cameo and Kathy's rare appearances are just to name but a few!

I kind of agree. I love him for the Who Killed Lucy storyline and introducing Claudette, but the rest is just (yawn)

Can someone please explain to me why the (rolls eye) and (yawn) emojis have been removed?

I think and hope DTC stays for a while, my guess is Alex Lamb will step up when he does leave.

The Beales are the only long-lasting problem, specifically Ian. It's going to be very weird if he just goes to back to comedy SL's and getting his head shoved down the bog after this. Even if Jane hands herself in to protect Bobby, Ian's still got the same secret to live with but without his biggest ally. If the truth does come out about Bobby, Ian either loses his freedom and goes to prison or he loses everything. Who on the Square would give him the time of day after this? Sharon, Dot and Kathy? That's fine but if the man wants to make a living on the Square, he's going to have to win around a lot more people than that. People would never look at him the same again and his businesses would suffer. If we're being realistic, he'd get death threats from people that read about his deceit in the Walford Gazette.

It's a separate issue from whether he's doing what any parent would have done. Any parent who did what he's doing and was exposed would face severe consequences and it's going to be interesting to see if they'll follow through on that with a cornerstone of the show such as Ian. I'm expecting a cop-out resolution with Mick telling everyone to "shut it" in the Vic and within a week, the café being busier than ever.

The biggest problem the next EP will face is toning down the Carter overkill - specifically the ludicrous extent to which the current EP has gone to centre the show around Shirley.

The Beales will sort themselves out. This storyline will clearly reach a climax at some point, and Jane and Bobby will presumably face some kind of punishment. As long as they face the consequences at some point the Beales will be able to (eventually) move on. Of course, Bobby being the killer will rear its ugly head again in the years to come, and the storyline will never really 'end' as long as there are Beales in the show, but the current "will they/won't they" saga will end soon. Probably Christmas.

I think the Carters will be fine once Dean has been sorted out....they are a good unit and work well in the Vic.

The Beales are another story. Three people have been arrested for Lucy's murder, the whole community has been turned upside down and they are thoroughly unlikable now.

It wouldn't surprise me if we didn't see a destruction of the carters once DTC leaves. Dyer and Bright are such good friends with DTC, i think they would leave with him. I think they would worry at being mistreated and push to the side. I couldn't see any other producer giving them the special treatement they get now.

The only way the Beale storyline can end is with Bobby getting found out before he hurts anyone else. He'll need to be given help with his anger issues and probable psychopathy. Jane and probably Ian will have to be jailed for a time. I honestly think Jane will have to leave the show for a few years but I'm sure she'll return. Ian will probably get 6 months inside.

The Carters have done it all. There's nothing left to see. Good luck to the next EP coming up with stories for them.

I would really like Kat's secret son to be forgotten and never referenced again. Or better yet leave Kat and Alfie in the past. Their entire 2nd stint was a disaster from start to finish.

I expect most of DTC's characters will be axed by the next EP. Very few of them have set the screen alight.

Indeed. I'm hoping he'll be on his way out soon, although I doubt it.

Alex Lamb is not the right person for the top job at EE.

When DTC does leave I think the following will be axed-

Les
Pam
Paul
Buster
Roxy
Donna
Sonia
Tina
Mo
Lee
Whitney
Martin
Rebecca

The Carter's have bern toned down the past couple of months and we've seen more of the other characters. I think Bobby will get found out soon with Kathy's return as DTC said that Kathy plays a major part in the storyline. Maybe the Beale/Mitchell family will be at the front of the storylines this Winter and heading to Christmas and Bobby getting found out is one of them?

There will beore changes when DTC eventually goes. I don't think the Carters will go anywhere. But DTC could have a few years yet.

Spot on. The Carter bashers on here are just tiresome. Group think gone crazy. Ian Beale being turned into what he has been is not something that can just be wiped away. It is with his character forever. Look at Ronnie.

Ian didn't murder anyone or steal somebody's kid. He isn't like Ronnie at all.

Ian has done plenty of despicable things in the past, including telling people that his daughter had cancer when she didn't. Phil covered up Ben killing Heather and that hasn't destroyed his character. The Beales can recover from this, and Ian's character has not be ruined.

Also, dismissing widely-held opinions on certain characters as 'groupthink gone crazy' is quite childish. A lot of people just don't like the Carters and that's all there is to it.

The Beales are acting horribly but given the way Max, Ronnie, Stacey, Phil, Ben, Shirley etc have gone on in the past I don't see that as any different from the norm in EE?

Exactly. You don't have to serve a long sentence if you commit a crime in Walford

The carters have been toned down completely with the exception of shirley

I'd much prefer to see mick and Linda.
