Ted Robbins is joining Corrie as Mary's new love interest.
Someone at Corrie is a Phoenix Nights fan I do like him though and it will be good to see Mary in a different light.

Another of Corrie's quirky characters no doubt. Like they need another one.

Mary with a love interest is long overdue and has potential to be very funny and/or heartbreaking.

I do like Ted Robbins though, so this has potential as far as I'm concerned.

Totally agree.
Along with Jenny, Mary is definitely one of my favourite characters at the moment (and has been since she first appeared), but she's also in my Top 10 Corrie characters of all time.

I'm pleased for Mary. It's about time she found someone.

Blimey, I hope Ted Robbins is up to doing this. It was only earlier this year when his heart stopped during the Peter Kay Live show and he was clinically dead for 15 minutes, only saved due to the quick thinking of a paramedic in the audience.

I think Mary is a great character and like many in Corrie is so underused. so hopefully this new love interest will mean we will be seeing a lot more of Mary..

I love Mary. One of my favourites.

Her character has such pathos.

She is usually seen as comedic but in scenes where she is being sensitive and supporting she is fabulous.

I thought at one stage they might try and pair her up with Roy and I'm glad they didn't go down that route.

Oh yes let's hope he is up for it. I'm actually looking forward to this

How awful I hope he's back to good health....I have seen him a few times and he seems like a genuine nice person..

Well it's scenes when she is with Dev and the kids I like, and during the whole Julie thing.

But it's the Mary last night with her typical over the top behaviour and silly noises she makes is when I find her unbearable. That has past being funny now in my opinion and is just grating. I hope we aren't in for some "comedy" story with her sticking her beak into Tim and Sally's wedding and acting stupid.

Ted is brilliant, so sad for him when he was taken ill doing the Phoenix Nights live shows.

Hope he can get his rather lovely niece a role too

No, that was Michael Robbins (namesake, no relation - image below)

Ted is the brother of impressionist and "Surprise Surprise" theme tune writer Kate.

I like the character of Mary; she is funny and interesting. But I don't see her as the romantic type, and I would prefer her to be left as she is.

Michael has been dead over 20 years and I'm sure he was briefly in Eastenders shortly before he passed away.

He died coming up for 23 years ago and yes, you are right - he appeared in Eastenders as "The Councilman" in a 1989 episode.
