Cora's homelessness and confusion (EastEnders)
I'm by no means Cora's number 1 fan, but what do people reckon happened to Cora to drive her into homelessness and make her undergo a drastic personality change? Reversible state of mind or permanent deterioration?

I thought she was fantastic last night. I think EastEnders is amazing right now. Anne Mitchell is a brilliant actress.

Likely a breakdown, triggered by Stan's death. She barely seemed wanted when he died anyway. The carters never even informed her. She found out herself by going to the hospice that morning.

I'd be annoyed if it was a breakdown. Pretty much exactly the same as done with Ian two years ago, only with a much better character. Never undersand why Cora is such a queen on here. Ann's a great actress, but Cora is overhyped...

The one plot hole in all this is how Tanya did nothing all these months when Cora didn't show up. She was expecting her mum to move in with her. There seems to be a major lapse in logic.
I wonder if she tried investigating Aunt Babe in her time away, right before she was homeless. |

Alcoholism is something that EE have never fully addressed about Cora and it is clear that she is an alcoholic but I also see this is a breakdown - after Stan died she felt alone, the Carters did not care, Abi was more concerned about Dot than Cora and to top it Tanya never even bothered to find out where her Mother was.
I would like EE to address Cora's alcohol problem but it needs to be done right, the character has lots to offer still and I would like to see her back on her feet but the character needs to time to find herself again and I hope she gets the help she needs. |

IIRC cora received a phone call from tanya just before she left saying there wasn't room for her to move in with her and cora came across as understanding but in actual fact this made jer feel even more unwanted....
That and Tanya telling Abi the other week that Cora wasn't there suggests she probably never received/listened to Cora's messages... |

I really hope it is a Dementia/Alzheimer's Disease storyline, since Ian had his breakdown from being homeless a few years back. It is a great long-term storyline and would highlight the terrible disease which affects so many.

Not sure either of you have remembered it quite right. Cora was calling Tanya and told everyone she was going down to stay with her, before we then saw Cora leave yet another message asking her to pick up/call her back etc etc. The indication being that Cora had failed to get through to Tanya at all.
That and Tanya telling Abi the other week that Cora wasn't there suggests she probably never received/listened to Cora's messages...

would be a good story to highlight dementia, and possibly alcohol related dementia.

I don't want Cora to have a dementia storyline.
