EE Eurodata bolt on

Taking a punt here... Is anyone else abroad and on an EE extra tariff, with the eurodata bolt on activated and not being offered the option of the additional slower speed 400mb after using up the fast speed 100mb?

Been in touch with CS three times now and still no joy. Trying to find out if it is just me or everyone.

I just assumed once you used 100meg it slowed down automatically, until it got to 500meg and then stopped. What happens when you hit 100meg then?

There should be an option on the landing page to add an additional 50MB free, which you can do up to 8 times to equate to the advertised 400MB at slower speeds.

I'm currently abroad in Murcia (Spain) and I'm on a legacy EE Extra tariff - the one that let you purchase 1GB of data for £25. I tried the Eurodata pass and the experience was dire. Data speeds were appalling. I struggled to get 1 meg down - this was within the 100 MB a day that is supposed to be at 4G speeds. I tried using data at San Javier airport and here at Las Ramblas. I don't believe this is a coverage issue as the Orange network in Spain is very good. 4G coverage is widespread. I'm convinced this is a throttling issue. It's throttled to the point of being unusable.

Luckily I have a Voda SIM with me and the speeds combined with the very reasonable Euro data pass have been a really good experience. No throttling here. I'm no Vodafone fan but they seem to have got the data roaming price/experience right.

Apologies if I'm going off topic here but some may be interested. My 3 eldest kids each have sims on Three. This has worked out well in the sense that there bills are capped (no big bills) and the Feel At a Home service roams on Movistar at no additional cost. This is great but expectations should be set - the data is throttled to the point of only being usable for messaging / browsing web pages. Forget streaming or downloading apps from an App Store.

The wife is on 02 which is (as you would expect) roaming on Movistar. O2 offers the £2/day travel service for unlimited?? data. Her experience has been poor. She complained of a consistently slow service.

So in summary, I think Voda are the only carrier not to be throttling mobile data abroad. I can understand why the others do it but it's a very poor user experience.

I get cut off, no option to use 400mb and I get a text telling me to buy more.

If that is the case it is not made very obvious, why not just have the 400mb in one block. At no stage on the instructions does it say to chose the 50 option (8 times).

Voda are great abroad, it's a shame their UK network isn't better - hopefully they'll get there eventually! Roaming is the only thing stopping me from moving to EE. I would guess most people don't pick their network on the basis of roaming though, given how bad the other network's offerings are.

It particularly annoys me how Three advertise Feel At Home, but in my experience throttle speeds so badly it was completely unusable even for Google Maps! Using a VPN sorted it, but it means paying for a VPN provider so you're not really saving much compared to Vodafone then anyway.

Totally agree...

I am guessing that they reserve the data in 50mb chunks and don't have to pay the roaming partner for what isn't used. 400mb is quite a lot for them to buy/reserve if only a fraction is used.
