Reasonable assumption. It is a freeview box. I don't really understand how line 23 works, but I didn't think it would be sent through the scart. Please correct me if I am wrong though.

If there is a line 23 WSS from the Freeview box it will almost certainly be present on the scart composite video. ( not at all sure whether it will also be on the RGB signal but this may be of no consequence)

I'm far from being an expert but would suggest that you completely eliminate any simple-to-fix problem (by substituting scart leads ) before returning the Panny DVDR.

Thanks for your suggestions. I might try removing pin 8 on the scart lead (probably not my expensive ones) to see if the digibox will still switch. if so I guess it must be using the line 23 method. I think its pin 8 anyway.

Ok, I took out pin 8 and pluged my digibox back into the telly and there was no widesceen switching.

Therefore there is nothing wrong with my scart leads, TV or Panny settings. So its a faulty ES10.

Not quite. You can have different formats for individual titles on a disc but not different formats within a single title (like you can with RAM)

Thanks. I have just bought a replacement from CURRYS. Ok, so it cost me more, but I figured that its a lot easier to go back if there are more problems.

Good news is my new one works perfectly

It goes to show that, though we're paying much less for these sort of toys, the build quality, even from reputable makers, ain't what it it used to be.

I'm still happy with mine, the only real annoyance being the widescreen flagging (thanks to Graham for correcting me re Disc vs Title format flagging). You wouldn't have thought it was a big deal to have added a menu option to change the flag for title or disc.

I notice that you have succesfully used the DMR-ES10 to archive from your Sky+ box. Are you able to archive all material, I am finding that some channels and some recorded material are "prohibited". Do you have a solution to this?

I am interested in the ES10 DVD recorder, and wanted to also use it to loop through signal from a PVR, RGB into AV2 then out to TV through component output. If I also use an S-video input to AV3 (I think it is) for archive recordings, can I record an AV3 signal to DVD whilst at the same time also viewing another loop through picture on component output? Or is it a case of if you are recording something, then that is all you can watch?

I'm afraid it is. S-video on front panel is AV3 and there's also a rear S-video AV4 input.
There is an RGB - RGB loop through (on standby) AV2 to AV1. And you can of course do your AV2 RGB to component output when it is fully powered on, with AV2 selected.

I intend to buy a HD Ready TV and, depending on the result of some research, I will probably buy the Panny DMRES10.

I was told that because the DVD is not HDMI it would not be a suitable purchase. Any observations would be appreciated.
