Hi guys, pretty new to all this. I have a Panasonic box, and would appreciate it if someone could tell me if I need to put my box on standby in order to receive an update?

Me and the Mrs normally just leave the digibox on.

Cheers

At about 10am today my Sky+ v1 Pace box froze momentarilly when the new channels (Paramount +1 and abc1) were added to the EPG. At the same time the message facility was acitivated. A small yellow envelope appeared on on the search & scan bar. When I pressed the yellow button about 6 messages appeared (looked as though they were test messages). About 5mins later they all vanished again.

Does anyone know what the message facility will be used for. Is this just for messages from Sky to the customer?

And I was hoping it might be this week...!

Does not matter, on or standby will get the update.

Cable has two times of downloads standby (only download to boxes in standby) and immediate (all boxes). As far as I know Sky do not do this.

I am also being asked for my PIN, and I can't remember it, as it must be 3 years since I last had to use it. I notice that the colours on the menu screen are different, so I assume a firmware upgrade has taken place.

Called the Sky number and a recorded message mentions problems with PIN numbers, so I guess it's a known problem of the upgrade.

If you haven't changed it, it might be the last 4 digits of your viewing card number.

Hi,
I can tell that I have a new software version, since a couple of days the colour scheme is different(I have a Sky+V2). What I've seen looking through the thread is that there are a couple new stations, is there anywhere a listing of what the apparantly important software changes are?
Thanks
Mannik

Hi i got a pleasant surprise this morn when I switched on my box to see that I had finally got the much talked about software upgrade. I first noticed the brighter shade of blue on the actual sky guide itself and was near reaching for my sunglasses as it is indeed very bright, but i have kind of got used to it during the day. My favourite part of the upgrade is the ability to knock that dreaded red dot/icon off after about 30 seconds. I did this through the services section, then picture settings. I quite like the way, you can press the help button and the subtitle/ narritive banner appears. You can also knok off all the adult channels, pity you cant do this with a lot of the other rubbish ones.

This may be a stupid question, but I have a Panasonic box, which I thought had received the upgrade, as I could remove the Red Dot etc, but under the Parental Control, there was no option to remove Adult Channels.

Has the software update for non sky+ boxes been rolled out as more than one update?

My Thomson box is a regular Sky digibox (not Sky+), we were the last to get the last update so I'd imagine others have the update already, unless they're updating in reverse order this time.

No update on my Amstrad or Sony digiboxes.

Sony are normally last, anyway...

You are correct. The features you mention, like red dot removal, were part of 'phase 1', (which incidently killed my Grundig, [MCES you are stars for the fix]) and the ability to remove adult channels is in 'phase 2' along with the brighter background for the menus screens.

daniel99. The Sky+ V2 has already received the update. So I'm not getting my wires crossed, if your box has a version ID of 9F21 then as long as you're not unplugging it at night then it should now be running EPG version Sky+1.30.q and OpenTV version 1.31A0E. The update for the Pace Sky+ version 2 was broadcast on the 6th September, probably around 5am.

'The Sky+ V2 has already received the update...'

Yep, mine has, and on one of the screens (parental control?) it asks for a PIN. Having never used this function I assumed it'd be 0000 but it was incorrect (2 attempts to go), so I tried 1111 again incorrect. With it down to one attempt to go I left it; I had visions of it locking up the whole box! Any ideas what the (default) PIN is set to?

Yes, that is strange. Check that the version number on your box (in services, 4 then 5) is 9F2103. If it's something different then maybe your update is yet to come, I find it unlikely though. Do you always leave your box on or is it put into standby overnight? Also shouldn't really make a difference so I guess I'm clutching at straws a bit here.

Robkiger - Your PIN number will be the last four digits on your viewing card, as long as you've never changed it.

It is because you did a 'forced download' as you said in another thread. Which will have wiped out the new s/w, that was 'waiting in the wings', with the last known stable version.
