In a semi-panic, I've just connected up my spare Panasonic TU-DSB30 and forced a software download. It loaded normally and now shows: 1.1.Z 0F0202 1.2S4FB 3.3b.5 My Panasonic iDTV is still on EPG software iDTV 3.2.11 too. |

if the v4 update comes on there is no card inside the slot (ftv card) and if you put the card back in after the update has come will the card still work straight away or will you have to wait for a bit?

Sorry satdude10, the answer should be yes. Hoefully, the update will not have anything to do with the card, and if it doesn't work for some reason, just ring Sky.

A bit of advice please v4.0.0 software
It appears that at some time today my + box upgraded to version 4.0.0 and I now am unable to watch something I recorded last night (Sunday).
How do I do forced download or a reset and which would be better. I haven't had a problem on this Thomson Sky+160 box since I got just over a year ago. I have had to turn it on and of several times today and disconnect from the mains to get it going and it still shows slowness in changing channels and to top it all if I got to view a recording it all seizes up. Nice loud clicks where the arm smacks the HD platen. Who else has version 4.0.0 of this software. Cheers |

Repeatedly questioned on how on earth that would be possible failed to produce any intelligible response - just repetition of the "it won't affect your viewing" statement. Send an e-mail to James Murdoch: jamesmurdoch@bskyb.com He/His assistant will certainly give you a clear answer. They've done it with me! |

There doesn't seem to be any follow up auto downloads for boxes that missed the original one/s. I've had an Amstrad 300 ( yuk ) plugged in for 3 days.... nothing...zilch...

We've got an Amstrad 30FE01 model box which has upgraded to software version 3.4.4b but we've been having serious problems with No signal is being received channels since that happened. Frankly it's driving me nutso. It did this last time there was a major software upgrade last year and Sky came and replaced the LNB for free after I kicked up a fuss. Is it likely that the LNB has gone again so soon or will it be the software changes again?
Unfortunately, I don't know anyone else with a dish so we can't go and test the box at mate's house. Any advice before I send himself out to tamper with the LNB? |

It's also possible that you're suffering from a combination of circumstances - some areas have snow, currently (which LNBs and dishes don't always like), and it's been pretty windy. It's probably worth checking on your Services-4-5 screen, just to make sure that 'Signal Strength' and 'Signal Quality' are both good (above 50% at least), and that the stream is 'LOCKED' and not fluctuating. Any symptoms like that MIGHT indicate that the dish has moved slightly. Similarly, it might be worth giving the cable a quick inspection to make sure it's not full of water at the LNB end, or cracked, squeezed, or hanging half out of the Digibox socket. Good luck - and my apologies if none of this helps - but at least if you check it all, and they DO try and flog you a new LNB, you'll be agreeing in the knowledge that they're not just trying to scam you for unecessary work! |

Well we left it off for an hour or so earlier and it's still refusing to show certain channels. Strangely immediately after it's turned back it we get a window of about 5 mins where all channels are working as they should be then they pixelate and we're back to error messages again. I have been checking the signal strength and that seems okay. Those channels that are complaining of lack of signal are actually showing plenty. Not checked the stream yet mind.
I bought a new LNB from Lidl last year when they were flogging them cheap and if we can lay our hands on it, it was put in a "safe place", then we could install that and see how it goes. It might be another threat of a move to NTL since I'm not forking out 60 odd quid to Sky for them to replace a part costing far less than that. |

I know nothing but, IMHO, new software implementation requires STBs/iDTVs to store the present and new software until the 'go' signal is sent. Then, storage of the new and old software is required so that, if it all goes tits up, the old can be brought back into use.
So, my theory is that lack of memory means that the present/new or present/old software cannot be accommodated at the same time in some STBs/iDTVs so, to free up memory, varying channels are given the 'No satellite signal ....' treatment as an interim measure. |

Well, another great update done on Sky boxes, sees category changes, Planner on Green Button, and a nice "Favourites" guide on the Blue.
Also I have noticed a rather excellent feature on "advertisements" from sky, it comes up with a Green Button saying "Set Reminder", and if you press it, the programme it is advertising gets added into your Planner. This is a great thing, especially having one of those VCR's you don't have to program (ie. when sky turns on it records, when sky turns off it stops recording). ---Well Done Sky!!---
