On my unused box the channels that moved categories are in the old categories (Sky travel in entertainment) Tavel and Living in News & Doc's)and is now before SKY news. All channels in 200's are entertainment still Radio is fun Radio 1 is now on 101 but you can not get to it by entering 101 you had to go down channel from BBC1 to get to the radios, |

So no major problem then - presumably the iDTV guys can continue to view even though there is no sign of 3.4.4b for them.
Thanks for the info. Are you going to update that box now?

Is this resorting to a default setting normal with a forced update? It's kept my favourite channels (except of course Scottish TV W) I think this behaviour varies by machine (and luck-quotient!). Mine didn't do it, but I've heard of others that have. Just out of curiousity, was your Sky card in or out at the time of the forced-update? My hunch is 'out'. ![]() Anyway - it SHOULD automatically pick up your regional variations after a period of just using the box as normal (with the card properly in). But if it doesn't, you can try doing a 'New Installation' (press Services-4-0-1-Select in sequence, and then look at the menu that appears - New Install is at the bottom). This process will set up your regional channels, and test the phone line connection (but you can safely ignore that last step, and even if you have no phone in, and it says it's failed, it will still sort out the card's regional channels). Let us know how you get on. |

This is becase we are still on the 3.2.11 EPG..... Andy I'm a little puzzled, though, why his radio channels are numbered 3101 etc... is this how 0101 is showing up on the iDTV? I can't get to ours to check right now.

When I got my digibox (which was someone else's chuck-out), because it had HAD a card for some time beforehand, it was still locked to Plymouth-area regional channels. However, most digiboxes will not remember these variations for long, if they have no card in them - it's the postcode details stored with the card (at Sky's end), that determine what regional variations you get. This is the case even if the card is only a £20 FTV card, and not a full sky subscription to channels (and is frankly the main reason I ended up paying that £20 - against my will - but can see it is worth it now, overall). I'm amazed your digibox has held on to its 'last known card settings' for so long - usually, if there's no card, they'll lose them in a few days, though I have heard of a few weeks in a couple of cases. Eventually, though, they WILL disappear anyway, and the default regionals get selected instead. So - basically, without an FTV card, there's nothing you can do. The update will probably have forced the box to reset itself, and in the process, the absence of the card finally got noticed, so it picked defaults. Only way you can get them back to your local ones now, is to either borrow someone else's (local) FTV card and hope to fool the box again (but it will only be temporary anyway) - or to purchase a Sky Freesat card for £20. |

Ok, thanks for the explanation, that makes sense. The digibox was bought second hand a year ago, and it didn't get switched on again until a couple of weeks ago. That was when I finally got an old 140cm dish up and running with a new feedhorn and LNB, the motor and pedestal removed, and fixed onto a wall. It's been a very educational process!

Isn't it just! I get the distinct feeling that they'd LIKE us to learn from this just one thing - pay for subscription channels from Sky... but it IS possible to get a lot for free (or very nearly). I still detest having to give Sky £20 for my FTV card, but overall, I think it's worth it, for the 'hassle-free' (or maybe, 'less-hassled') operation of the EPG and your correct local channels - plus of course, you get C4, Five and Sky 3 unscrambled too, which (while not exactly deal-of-the-century) isn't too bad, I suppose. Especially when there's no other way around it!

Thomson Dsi 4101
HI,
I've bought a second hand digibox, the THONSON DSI 4101. It hasn't been working for a while as the old EPG software version is still in it. Can I force it to upgrade (and in this case what do I hae to do), or do I just have to wait ant i'll do itself. Thanks for your help. |

You can do a Forced Upgrade: Unplug from Mains; Hold Backup on the Box while Plugging back in; When all front panel lights come on, release Backup; Wait about 10 mins until Box goes into standby: Bob's your Auntie.

Sorry, I can't understand your question? Is the box stuck in the forced download? If it is, unplug from mains, if it isn't, tell us.

Hi everybody, thats for your mobilisation.
I left the box to update all night, this morning it was still stucked in update mode. In total I tried 4 times without any succes. What sall I do (it is a thomson dsi 4101). Is it possible that the box is gonna get the update by itself, or is it something else I can do ? |

If it is Downloading successfully, it takes no more than 10 mins: Therefore, if it hasn't reset by then, there is no point in leaving it running.
Check that you have decent Signal Quality as this is necessary for Downloading. If so, try again a couple of times a day for a couple of days. I don't think you will now get it in the normal run of things as the Ver 4 Upgrade programme is complete (apart from IDTVs). Last edited by rai man : 22-03-2006 at 11:52. |

Thanks a lot, the satellite wire is about 35 meters, but the signal quality is about 75 %.
I'll try tonight again with a much shorter cable. about 20 meters. Lets see what is happening. I hope there is no fault with the box, but apartthis problem, it is running very fastly. So let's see.... |
