My Amstrad weighing scales got the update last night too... auto standby in the menu, "other channels" now at position 7, a shortcut I will need to get used to.

Hi
I have just noticed my Pace 2600 has updated to
EPG 3.7.6
Operating system 1.2S4FS

This has a new feature Auto standby, it goes into standby after a certain time when not used, this can be turned on/off.

All the best jtkeep

Keep an eye on out of sync recordings. It might be just coincidences so far, but I seem to have noticed recordings auto-correcting the audio/video sync within 2 minutes.

When was the last 3.2.11 dodgybox upgrade?

Gory details are:-

EPG Software Version : 3.2.11

Did you have any luck with this update, i have also just salvaged a box from the loft. I have a different version number, but the rest is the same. I also am unable to do a forced update.

The worst bit about it is, the epg only shows channels 1,2,3 & 4. Nothing else.

I can only view these 4 channels also.

By coincidence I also just got our Panasonic TU-DSB30 out of the cupboard and it had a very limited epg until I forced an upgrade yesterday.

I found the method here and noticed the danger of wrecking the flashed installation but decided to risk it because the signal was 70%:-

Unplugged it for 30 secs, then held down 'select' button on front panel while plugging it back in, and kept it held down until the lights came on, and it eventually went into standby

Ours needs the sky card (no current subs) to get the other channels

System details are now:-
Manufacturer : Panasonic
Model Number : 1.2.I
Version Number : 0F0210
Operating System Version 1.2S4FI
EPG Software Version : 3.6.4.18

It looks as if ours is an earlier model but now has more recent EPG which works just fine now

That's the previous version of the software.

Don't worry about it yet, you'll get the update automatically soon enough.

I've tried to force a manual update on an old Amstrad box I've had in the loft for three years. Although it appeared to work (I got the B/W screen warning not to power off) there was no change to the OS or EPG version numbers and the menu is still the old one.

Any ideas? I didn't have a Sky viewing card in when I did it, would that stop it?

Thanks, Chris

The Card is irrelevant.

You need to try the Forced Download at different times of day - possibly over a few days.

The Forced Download Stream doesn't seem to be active for all Box types on a predictable basis, so it's pot luck to some extent.

Of course, you could just leave it powered up (standby will do) and it should eventually receive the latest version automatically.

I'll do that -- many thanks for the reply.

I can't say.

Some people reported that the update has been pulled for them.

As long as your box is switched on (at the wall) and connected to a working satellite dish you'll get the update eventually.

I've also just dug my old Amstrad out of the loft which is the same model and versions as you. Did yours eventually update? I have tried it with and without my old viewing card and it only sees BBC1 and 2 in the TV guide. Also tried a forced update and it completed but hadn't updated the software.

no, funnily enough I checked it again yesterday, having left it on all the time since my first post. I tried a forced upgrade as well, but still no luck.

It's really annoying because i really want to use it for the radio stations but they don't come up at all.

I presume that because Sky haven't made any recent changes to the epg or s/w that they have assumed that all these old boxes have been updated and therefore they have pulled the update.

Perhaps we'll have to wait until the next significant epg or s/w change?

does anyone know if it's possible to update the s/w in any other way, like using the RS232 interface? that's assuming you can get the firmware from somewhere too. do installers have any equipment that lets them refresh boxes perhaps?

Bugger. I have read that if you miss too many updates then the box will never be able to update the latest version .... maybe someone could confirm?

From reading the first page it appears that there is no way to manually update the box via a PC and I can't really see Sky being happy with their firmware being out there in the wild. I also doubt installers have the equipment\skills to fix\update the boxes as they would just return them to the service centre who I guess would be able to.

I guess my box although working perfectly from a hardware perspective is now going to end up on the scrap heap!

Cheers

Welshbob, mine is Panasonic Model Number : 2.1.G Version Number : 0F0302

But it also 'only' has:-
Operating System Version : 1.2S4F3
EPG Software Version : 3.2.11
- i.e. the same as yours

The epg shows everything and I can view all the usual free channels, but only with the card in place (no subscription). Without the card I only get a few BBCs

Maybe your troubles are to do with not having the card, rather than the OS or EPG software?

I can set AutoView to come out of standby and record to another box with a hardrive, using its own timer. I am not sure but think I am pleased not to have 'auto shut down' because but I reckon it may make the box go to standby,
(or even off?) after a certain period, and possibly in the middle of recording? I used to have something like this happen annoyingly with a Sky+ box once I dropped the subscription so reverted to the old Panasonic.

Have just noticed I can set series link as well. Does that mean that when Autoview is set then Series link will set retain it potentially for recording the whole series? - better give it a try

Cheers for the info. The box would have been turned off in October 2004 and just turned back on this year so I guess it maybe the card thats at fault? Although with all the channels that are FTA then do you still need the card to receive them \ config the epg?
