Cheers for the info. The box would have been turned off in October 2004 and just turned back on this year so I guess it maybe the card thats at fault? Although with all the channels that are FTA then do you still need the card to receive them \ config the epg?
In fact, as posted earlier, my software was even older before a couple of weeks ago, when I thought I forced an update to the OS and EPG which are now shown. I thought they were now up-to-date! Are you sure you did not also have an earlier software version before you did an update attempt? Can't remember what the op meant when she/he said the card was not relevant - have a look at the earlier posts, maybe someone else can help about all this PS it was post #790 rai uno, and think he/she referred to the s.w. update Last edited by chris6 : 07-01-2009 at 18:27. Software not upgrading on PACE box
Not sure of the model name but the System Details are:-
Manufacturer Pace Model Number 1.0.50 Version Number 9F0801 O/S Version 1.2S4BQ EPG Software Version 3.1a.5. The problem I am having is I replaced a faulty Thomson box with the Pace one above due to a power supply problem, and the TV Guide is not showing properly and the box freezes. I have been in touch with Sky and they have paired the viewing card with the replacement box. First I was only getting about 4 channels so they recommended doing the software update using the backup button on power up. All seemed to go ok but the software is still sitting on the versions above. Am I wasting my time, this box was fine and was only used for around 3 months before it was replaced with a Sky+ one? It has been sitting in the loft for at least 3 years. Any ideas on how to force the update, I have tried it 3 times now but software still stays on the same version. Thanks |

That is a very, very old EPG Version, it's about 5 years old! Just leave the box plugged in and connected to the dish, and it should update within a few days/a week.

It won't be be much help to you, but I thought you'd like to know that you're in good company.
I've also got a Pace (2600C1) which has been stored 'off-air' for some time that I now want to use as a replacement for an ageing Panasonic Sky box. My Pace is:- Model No. 1.0.65, Version 9F0801 O/S 1.2S4FB EPG 3.3b.5 ...and I've had it sitting on the Sky News channel (but on stand-by) since mid-December, still waiting and hoping for it to receive an update. I tried a couple of forced downloads but they just resulted in the same O/S and EPG as before. Some people have suggested that if a Sky box has missed several updates it won't update again, and if a forced download is tried the box can only be used as a doorstop. I've not seen anything factual to confirm this and remain hopeful that this won't be the case. My Pace box has survived at least two forced downloads and is still quite usable although its EPG is not in the new format. Can anyone in this forum give us the TRUE facts about upgrades and how often they might occur or is this information classified and locked away in the Sky system? I'd much prefer my Pace box to be upgraded before I get my viewing card 'married' to it instead of to the Panasonic box. Many thanks and good luck. |

For what it is worth:-
Operating System Version : 1.2S4F3 EPG Software Version : 3.2.11 do not seem to be specific to any Panasonic or Amstrad etc., and seem to work fine whether they are the latest versions or not |

What would be nice is a current listing of what everyone agrees the latest version of software is, why Sky can't publish this somewhere I don't really know. Last time I spoke to them they were very helpful up to a point but then I got the 'only thing left is getting an engineer for £65 or consider upgrading to Sky+.' As the box is for use by my Mum who is 82 this year, she doesn't really want to get anything like Sky+!

Hi Tom, just thought I'd update you on my Mum's Sky Digibox, it has now finally updated (after a week of problems) to O/S Version 1.2S4FJ and EPG Software Version 3.7.6, which seems a lot newer than the original 3.1a.5 and it works ok at last. Seems you just have to be patient with these things! Thanks for your advice.
Steve ![]() Your Pace update timing is VERY interesting, and possibly coincidental, because I called Sky yesterday lunchtime to get them to register my viewing card to my Pace receiver (see my posting in response to you original one). I had decided to get them to re-register my viewing card to the Pace in order to get the subscription channels on it even if the menu formats were not to the latest specification. Sky took the details of the Pace box and then told me that my Model Number (1.0.65) was an old one and that it should now be 1.0.77 or 1.0.78. They told me they would send an update and that I should do a forced-download and wait up to four hours. I checked again in the evening and found that the Pace firmware was unchanged so I called them again this morning and they repeated the update but to no avail. Fortunately my viewing card remained registered with my old Panasonic box. I'm wondering if you received a successful update as a result of the Pace update that Sky attempted to send to MY Pace box? Does that perhaps mean that Sky CS do have the ability to update firmware on request? Good luck anyway Steve - I'm glad that you are now a happy bunny! I still can't understand why my own Pace box won't update. Sky tell me that if it won't update over-the-air there is nothing more that they can do other than arrange a chargeable service call - which I declined. Is it possible to get the firmware upgraded by any other means? Anyone else got any thoughts on this that they can share with us? TIA - Dave |

Max wait is a few weeks. And no, at the moment Customer Services can't send updates to individual boxes.

![]() Anyway, I'll be patient, leave it connected, and wait to see what happens. I must say that I had my doubts about what Sky CS said about their ability to send a firmware download - thanks for confirming it. - Dave |

Your version numbers may be different, or the box may have simply missed the download.

I've been investigating the matter of over-the-air upgrades further. One person that I spoke to believed that full updates are no longer being sent out for 2600 boxes with early versions of firmware, in an attempt to thwart those people using that particular box outside the UK.
I don't know if it's true or not, but it's certainly a very interesting possibility, and could explain some of the problems being discussed here, I suppose. I have discovered that there is another, much quicker, way to get a 2600C1 box with very old firmware upgraded. If you send your box to Digifix Ltd in Buxton, Derbyshire,(www.digifixltd.co.uk), they can upgrade the box's firmware to EPG 3.6.4.18 for a very reasonable charge, with a very quick turnaround time. I know it's not the very latest version, but with that more recent firmware installed the 2600 box should then be able to catch-up on future downloads. I hope that this information is of some interest to 2600 owners with updating problems. |

It would make more sense to buy one at auction, with uptodate softwate, even if one spent £90 total. At least you could end up with two boxes! |

Our old Panasonic Skybox seems to work fine for all free channels as long as the card is in place, but software has varied as follows
2nd Dec 2008 :- Model Number : 1.2.I Version Number : 0F0210 Operating System Version : 1.2S4F1 EPG Software Version : 3.6.4.18 16th Jan 2009:- Model Number : 2.1.G Version Number : 0F0302 Operating System Version : 1.2S4F3 EPG Software Version : 3.2.11 Now on 6th Mar 2009:- (same as it was on 2nd Dec) Model Number : 1.2.I Version Number : 0F0210 Operating System Version : 1.2S4F1 EPG Software Version : 3.6.4.18 We have re-discovered using Planner and Autoview to switch the skybox out of standby, onto a channel to record through SCART, and go back to standby. What are we are missing by not having a later software version, and what is the advantage of 'auto standby' please? |
