boxes are
3 x pace 2500
2 x amstrad drx200
3 x amstrad drx100
4 x grundig gds100”

A lot of the time it depends how out of date the existing software is on those very early boxes. Anything earlier than 3.3.8 is definitely debatable whether a forced update works.

so are you saying its the current software that is in the box,,that means that it might not upgrade, not the make of box.... is there no way to connect it up to a pc and put softward in that way

No, is the simple answer. There are so many different Sky boxes that the stream cannot carry all the software variations simultaneously.

I got lucky with the two I had to do (see post #908).

so if i put an amstrad on and get a download,it makes sense to do the same model next coz the stream is running,if no luck i change to a another model and repeat

Yes - and if a download fails, don't bother trying again that day (or even trying another box of the same type), move on to another model.

Just for info, I had a Pace 2600C1 do an OTA update from 3.7.7 to 3.8.8 on either Sunday or Monday (13/14th March)

That's the pesky model that will not do a forced download - you have to wait for a Sky to initiate the OTA download. (I think the Pace minibox is the only other one with this limitation).

I was surprised as I only connected it up in the morning having picked it up at a car boot sale. I think last time I did that I had to wait a couple of weeks before it updated. (I'm in Berkshire UK and box was just on standard default transponder.). Checked Tuesday and there it was! Don't know what it gives me but its nice to have the current release on it..

Thats another pensioner that will be delighted to be spared the expense of DSO (Curry's told her it would cost £200 for new tv and digibox )

Can customer services still send updates to your box on demand?

I remember some 7-8 years ago I was on the phone to them and they sent the updated the software on my box because it wasn't doing it automatically.

My HD decoder wouldn't switch on this morning resulting in a power off / on. It then said it had performed a s/w upgrade. What was the upgrade for and should it have left my box in the state I found it? Fortunately its working fine after the power off / on.

Earlier (post #932 back in March) I mentioned an OTA update to 3.8.8 that I received very quickly for the Pace 2600. (One of the few boxes that you cannot force an update for).

But more recently I have had a Pace 2600 patiently waiting (good signal) for an update from 3.4.4b to current (3.8.8?). Been waiting for over a month now and was just wondering whether Sky had stopped doing the updates.

Do you think I'd get any joy contacting Sky or Pace? Shame really as its otherwise in very good nick and performs perfectly. I'm not even sure what the newer software would do anyway...the dubious benefit of auto-powersaving maybe?

Re post #939..... I should add that I'm not a Sky customer so presumably they would feel no obligation to assist me?

I may be wrong but I think I got an update just now (1:55am) as the box turned itself off & rebooted - the version is 45.0.41.12

I have been under the impression that this is when an update happens - and its always around 2am. Sadly I don't know what the prev version was.

Sorry for bad info, it wouldn't let me 'edit' the post,

Here is the info,

Amstrad 500gig HD box,

OS version - R003.047.20.00P
EPG version - 45.0.41.12

Ok I know its an old thread, and old boxes are a minority interest nowadays but just thought I'd report a satisfactory OTA update of a Pace DS430N overnight 22nd/23rd Feb 2012 from 3.4.4b to 3.8.8. Previous attempts to do a forced update had failed and I've been waiting patiently for over a month.

I'm in Berkshire UK on default transponder.

Alas my poor Pace 2600 (one of the few boxes that you can't do a forced update) stayed on 3.4.4. Nevertheless it seems to work perfectly well. Lovely box, great picture and as fast as newer boxes.

All depends what type of sky box you have, only the new Amstrad models DRX890 and DRX895 can except the new version of the EPG.

Pace and Samsung boxes will possibly get the new EPG sometime later in the year and Thomson boxes will not ever get the new version.

The latest version of the EPG for DRX890 boxes on the forced update stream is R004.049.22.00P. If your box is an 890 and it won't update to the latest version, there could be a problem with your box or you are not doing the forced update correctly.

Also as you are saying you are getting the error message "no satellite signal" that could also suggest that there is a problem with your dish alignment or lnb. You may be best contacting the Sky help team to get this sorted.

Is the latest software for the DRX 890 boxes available on download stream or are targeted updates still going on ?
