I just bought an Elephone P8000
From eBay so haven't received it yet.
Started worrying a bit though, can someone validate my purchase please? I didn't even read a review for it and have pretty much only read the specs, although I have read a fair few on their p7000 and p6000 offerings, so I've taken a proper leap of faith here. Under £140 though so it's not a big risk financially. Specs look unbelievable for the price; 4,165 mah battery, Full 1080p screen, 3gb ram, 1.3 ghz 64 bit octa-core processor, stock no nonsense android lollipop. Worth the gamble? |

Can't comment on the P8000, but I've been using the P7000 for the last couple of months with no problems.
They issue fairly regular OTA updates, and the phone is solidly built. The camera is the only slight disapointment, but it's not as bad as a lot of the reviews make out. The P8000 is supposed to be a step up from the P7000, so I don't think you will be disapointed. |

What network are you on? It supports:
2G: 850/900/1800MHz 3G: 900/2100MHz 4G LTE: 800/1800/2600MHz |

I suspect you'll find the battery capacity to be exaggerated, worst case i'd expect something in the region of 2200mah - 3000mah in the real world. The Chinese seem to love exaggerating battery capacities, but the other specs should all be accurate.
When it arrives, I doubt you'll have any problems, I bought a Cubot GT99 nearly Three Years ago from Ali Express, its run flawlessly and never given me any issues even when running as a wifi access point 24/7 every Weekend (I don't have ADSL), it runs a sat nav, monitors a home DVR based CCTV system and basically does everything a phone costing four time the price would do, and its never crashed or overheated. Best £90 I ever spent, and phones like the P8000 now have even better spec, so for £140 - even more value for money. Provided you have bought from a Vendor with good feedback, its no more risky than buying from anyone else on Ebay and you are fully covered by Paypal protection anyway, however if the Vendor ships from China / HK (Some hide this fact) then you *may* have 20% Vat to pay and a Royal Mail / Courier Customs handling Admin Fee, however if it ships from the UK or Europe you won't pay anything. |

Cheers for the input everyone.
I'm with three and according to that will my phone work website it will work, i reallu should have checked that first. The seller claims to be from Birmingham on ebay, has a lot of feedback with over 99% positive so I think they're legit. according to a thread on the xda developers forum the battery is as claimed, richparr, how has the battery on your p7000 held up? |

I had an LG G3 before, and was usually on its last legs by the time I went to bed, the P7000 is usually still on 30-40% left. |

Thought I should update this thread with some thoughts.
These are not going to be technical in thought, purely from a casual use point of view so I'll only be talking about the obvious stuff. Screen - Very good screen for the price but i do not recommend it if you're someone who doesn't like having a screen protector on, that is unless you don't mind a bit of wear and tear. Got a feeling the screen on this phone is going to get battered pretty easily. For me it is not an issue but i know it can be an annoyance to some. Battery - The most important thing for me and I have to say it is very very impressive. Yesterday for me was a average/low use day for me; played about one hour of stick cricket 2, watched about 40 minutes of video reviews for metal gear solid 5 and on and off internet browsing/whatsapp/flipboard/various other apps usage throughout the day. The phone was down to about 65% when I went to bed, about 16 hours with about (pure estimate) 3 hours of screen on time. 3g/4g and wireless - I read of some issues with the 4g but those appear to have been sorted with updates as it has been flawless so far. Wireless is slightly less reliable but is easily sorted with a disconnect/reconnect. It's a bit annoying but i'm hoping that gets sorted in time as well. Sound - the inbuilt speaker is poor but most people are not going to really use it out and about, it's sufficient for light toilet watching or the odd short video. I read that the sound through headphones was quiet but so far it has not been noticeable. For music I've been around 45% of max, watching a film on the bbc iplayer i was up around 80% (only did that for a quick test) and using mx player i was around the 9-10 mark and it does allow the use of sw decoder to go up to 30 if you need it. Storage - I couldn't get it to take a Samsung 64gb sd card, it works well with a 32gb sandisk ultra that I swapped in from my other phone. I didn't try too hard with the 64gb card as it is from a tablet and didn't really want to delete anything from it. Some people say it takes 64gb no problem if you reformat so I don't know there. As a phone - It works well, call quality is fine. For the £140 i paid i'm pretty happy, you can get them direct from china for £109 (probably even less if you shop around) I wasn't sure about import tax/duties so I paid a bit more for a pre imported one. |

Hmm, might get one of these for elderly parents. I am interested though, how are they with software updates?

No duty levied on something with a declared value under £135.If it got stopped, you would just be looking at VAT @ 20%, however the delivery agent would add an "admin & handling fee" for for dealing with the customs on your behalf, this is usually £8 for the Royal Mail / Parcel Force and DHL (to a residential address). Other companies like Fed Ex charge slightly higher fees, so are best avoided. So, buying at £109 from China, you'd be looking closer to £139 if it got stopped at customs once VAT and the Handling Fee was added, so you wouldn't have saved anything much by buying direct. Plus you got it faster from a UK vendor. |

Had an update yesterday, already had more updates from this phone than with every samsung device I've ever bought combined. Wifi problems appear to have been sorted. |
