Anyone interested in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 can find some information here:

Most likely won't see release till 2016, although there is a hint it may appear with one of the new nexus devices......Quallcomm could really use a boost right now, given sales of the 810 have floundered.

Apparently Samsung is testing the 820 on an S7 prototype. Although I have to be fair now that Samsung has had great success with its own Exynos SoC, they have very little need to go back to them.

I can see Samsung continuing to use Qualcomm, simply because Qualcomm will do just about anything to keep in with Samsung (and stop others deciding to shop elsewhere too). So, I bet Samsung could get Snapdragon 820 for a VERY good price, which might just help given Samsung isn't exactly doing brilliantly right now in terms of sales and profitability.

I would agree with that were it not for the fact most prominent handsets opting to use in house SoC. This cockup on Qualcomm's part has opened the door to Samsung, Huawei resorting to their own chip designs. Mediatek is said to be on the rise in the far east as well, the aforementioned also seem to be moving to 14nm process much faster than Qualcomm. Depending on the reports you read, Qualcomm is having trouble getting the die down to 16nm process. They are said to be courting Samsung to manufacture their new generation of SoC and pushing it down to 14nm. Qualcomm has suggested the new generation SoC will be available at 16/14nm, it currently doesn't have the capacity to make a 14nm, hence why Samsung has been thrown in.

I expect the 820 will be brought forward to a release this calendar year, Qualcomm needs that chip out there given how much market share and revenue it has lost. I keep saying this every other week, but its a great time to be a consumer, Huawei amongst others are pushing the cost of owning a phone down. Also the fact some of the major players are turning to their own or neighbouring countries for good SoC, the market is opening up.

I detest dominance by one brand or company, I love it when a company such as OnePlus comes along and takes an axe to the rest of the market. It changes the dynamic, I think the perfect example is Motorola.....only a few years back that company was looking at bankruptcy, with the vision of Google the company released the Moto G which has been its biggest selling handset ever....it continues to release yearly updates.

My point being is the market is beginning to diversify and the cost is being drove down as well. This is a win win for the consumer, but lose lose for somone like Qualcomm who seemingly no longer hold the dominance they once did.
