Anyone bought any party food from supermarkets (Waitrose, M&S, Sainsbury etc)

Just trying to organise a party, with a cold buffet. I looked at the party food ordering packs from the big supermarkets, and in all cases, the party food catering works out dearer than buying it off the shelf. You would have thought it would be a bit cheaper for a bigger quantity, rather than more

For instance, 800gm packs of their quality coleslaw tend to be about £5, but buying these separately from the shop works out less. It is definitely cheaper buying smaller 400gm quiches compared with their large 1Kg (or bigger quiches). Desserts are the same. Buying several smaller desserts works out less than buying a bigger size.

The only thing I can see is that some of the larger packs come in servable containers.

We have ordered some things in party packs, but overall, we are buying about £200 worth of food, all told, and I reckon conservatively we are saving at least £30 - £40 by being selective in our choices, and we are just taking a slight risk that they are out of stock when we are ready to buy - in which case, we can get some alternatives. The only thing we will need to cook is some fresh salmon.

Just hope the fridge is big enough!
