How To Stop Local Cat Defecating On Lawn
Chief_Wiggum

Hi All,

A local cat which lives in my street has been defecating daily on my front lawn. It has been doing this for several weeks and I am fed up of removing it on a regular basis so I was wondering if anyone has any tips for discouraging the cat from doing it's business there?

I have read about lawn pellets and things but I don't want anything toxic or anything harmful to the cat. Any suggestions?

Cheers.

You can buy an infrared device that you plant in your lawn, and if the cat breaks the beam, it squirts a small amount of water at them, which makes them jump and leave.

Failing that, get a cat, your cat won't crap in your garden, and nor will anyone else's

If you can hide then use a super-squirter to wet the cat. Its important the cat doesn't see you doing it though else it will just check to see if you're around before doing its business.
There are some plants they don't like the smell of too - like rue, curry herb, lemon balm, rosemary, lavender and coleus canina.

Not sure about lavender, because my cat lies next to one in the garden to get the early morning sun.

We had success stopping our dogs peeing in certain areas with a disinfectant called zoflora, just a little in a watering can of water and water the lawn, it won't harm the grass it actually improved ours never been so lush and green. As long as it dries before contact it won't harm the cats either. Not tried it with cats but it's a cheap thing to try most pound shops have it.

I had some success with chicken manure pellets which you can get online and from places like BQ. As a bonus they feed the gsrden too.

Must admit I've got a lot of lemon balm in my garden, but I've never noticed cats avoid it
I guess different cats avoid different things, though apparently the coleus canina was specifically bred as a cat deterrent.

I think you are right we were told mint, but all but one of our cats would lay and rub themselves with the stuff, we had minty smelling cats that year.

Thanks for all your helpful suggestions. I think I will look into the chicken manure pellets, zoflora, and possibly the plants which the cats don't like. I will post again on this thread in due course if I have been successful or not.

Good luck !

I found letting my pup out to do his business at the same time quite effective. Rather than the cat sauntering through my garden, he makes haste through it now.
