Archiving to DVDR
Hi
I was just wondering if the latest generation of Youview Pvr permitted you to archive programmes to DVDR via a DVD recorder connected by scart. Cheers Joolio |

I have an old Daewoo DVD pvr recorder that records fine form my Talk talk youview box through the scart, you loose a bit of the picture quality but it works every time, it even records content from Netflix and sky store

The latest generation of Youview is the BT UHD box, which has removed ALL analogue connections. No SCART, no RCA phono, only has one HMDI and one optical output. Just has the (essential) aerial pass-thru.
I'd expect that to find its way eventually into future versions of the standard BT Youview+ HD boxes and maybe standard Youview+ boxes too. Back panel/internal space issues in the upgraded UHD Youview box seem to be the main reason for this but I think the World is heading that way anyway. Sky boxes may retain analogue outputs for a while though, as long as they stay largish (in comparison). |

BT Youview recording to dvd
You can record via scart to an external dvd recorder no problems.
Have done this many times. Do not know about the new "mini" box" as I do not have one |

As above - the latest UHD box only has an HDMI video output for TV connection, and that's your lot. So for external archiving, best to avoid the UHD box (or investigate pricey HDMI splitters/adapters).
They let you keep your old Youview box thugh if you upgrade to UHD (just ignore their letters offering to take it back) so you can use the old one for recording Freeview and that has a SCART video output. |

I think given another 5 or 10 years and we will start to see an end to the old scart on the back of the likes of newer TVs and PVRs.

Looks like things are going to be without External input and output in the future.
![]() Panasonic's new HDD/DVD recorder DMREX97EBK has not external source input. Earlier models did which was very useful for copying from another source e.g. SKY box, editing out commercials and then burning to DVD. ![]() Downhill path!!! ![]() ![]() Mikembe |
