I don't think Paddy's show worked in Scotland because there just wasn't enough discipline in the production of it. Whereas if you listen to the equivalent Heart show at that time of the morning with Stephen Mulhern and Emma Willis, they were given enough room to show a bit of personality but not so much they rambled on forever, or went on about stuff local to them which didn't matter to anyone else (a Paddy link about a seaside resort in the north of England being a particular lowlight - that doesn't matter if he does it on ITV, it does if someone's listening to Clyde 1). The trick with the Heart show seemed to be giving personality to those who wanted it without intruding into the music for those who weren't bothered, or just wanted someone to chat but get off quickly. It's quite a skill actually.
I also feel - with apologies to viewers in the north of England - that there's less appeal to shows being networked from Manchester than there is from London. See also Galaxy and Real Radio vs Heart and Capital. There's at least some perceived glamour to having big name presenters in London versus jocks who just happened to be in Manchester when the decision was taken to network the show. I wonder if there's a little bit of succession planning going on with the decision to acquire Ewen and Cat and the decision to move Greigsy to Clyde. There really doesn't seem to be any rush to move George Bowie out of the breakfast seat, he is still Mr Glasgow and the west and hugely successful, but it doesn't hurt to have a strong line-up on your flagship station. I wondered that when Ewen and Cat joined for the Sunday show and Greigsy has became the main cover presenter for George Bowie. I wondered a while ago if Bauer got the old XFM frequency for Clyde 2 would George be offered Clyde 2 breakfast but continue with GBX on a Saturday on Clyde 1. Then Clyde 1 Breakfast could then he taken over by Ewen and Cat (cant see them taking over at the moment due to Ewens TV Work) or Greigsy. |

Ahh the glamour of London. It's grim up north and there is that glimmer of hope when hearing z listers from the big capital. It gives a warm fussy feeling inside.

At least when you hear a well-produced star it sounds like there's a reason for the networking, rather than just rebroadcasting Key 103 and throwing "This is Clyde 1" in some of the links. |

I think Paddy forgot sometimes that he wasnt just on in Manchester and Liverpool.

It's common sense for Clyde 2 to take the frequency - it's been facing an uphill battle with Smooth being on crinkly old MW. However, it would be difficult to argue that it increases listener choice for that reason. Faced with the risk of the likes of Go putting in a 24-hour Glasgow bid, an unknown Global option (should they be interested) and many other community stations maybe considering an upgrade, not to mention the possibility a Paisley bidder goes for it, would that be enough? |

If Global wanted the glamour of Capital broadcasting from Leicester Square, they'd be honest about it. Whereas now they try and cover it up and treat the listener like a fool. |

I do wonder how the bidding for that frequency will go. It's quite the poker game.

I know that Global's merging the studios at some point, but currently there's a spare studio at Capital Scotland for XS to broadcast from? Wonder why Global didn't sell it off to Communicorp in the first place? |

Lcraa - I've not really expressed myself properly, sorry. I know what you mean about the game being to hide the London origins from regional listeners. What I meant was more that people were used to receiving TV broadcasts from London so wouldn't be so averse to a London sound (slick if predictable presentation and a standard accent) to what sounds like Key 103 with a bunch of local jingles thrown in. Not saying that's right (either in terms of the theory being right or it being correct that's how things should be), it's just a theory.
Personally I have more of a problem as a listener with Clyde networking than Heart/Capital. There's a degree to which you accept the latter is brand radio, whereas the former feels like it should be local. I hadn't thought of Communicorp, you're quite right. The return of Rock Radio would be an interesting development. What I don't know is whether they just have XS by default or whether they want to develop it - here's a chance to test that I suppose. It would have made sense in hindsight for Global to pass it along but they probably thought there would be no more FM readvertisements. |

Hats off to Bauer Scotland this morning. Special report for Dunblane at 9.30am with Read all about it by Emeli Sandé preceding it, very appropriate song choice.
Also a very well produced report so sad to hear |

They could network Freejack's Classic Cuts if they created a new Rock FM only show in another slot though, say on Sunday evenings again which is where they used to have Freejack.

I might be reading in to this too much but I wonder if Greigsy was moved from the Evening show across Scotland to the Clyde 1 10-2 show as some of the bauer Scotland stations wouldn't have had a female DJ bar the breakfast sidekick till 10pm.

Greigsy is covering for knoxy tonight. Is that not quite unusual for a previous presenter of a show to do cover

I'd guess for a show that short they won't open the phone lines… I can only imagine some of the callers! ![]() Some BC1 stations are also carrying Grant Thomson 3 - 6pm on Good Friday, but there does appear to be opt-outs. Of course, the schedule could be up to Bauer's usual accuracy standards.

Also a bit of a change this year as last year on public holidays the drivetime slot was picked for the local show. Quote:
I'm surprised you didn't spot that Good Friday's "2 O'Clock Anthems" is showing on the BC1 schedule as being replaced by a one hour "GBX Easter Anthems" Scotland-wide. This seems a strange one as other posters have said that GBX was tried outside Glasgow and never worked. I wonder if it is a trial to see if it would work on a Saturday night rather than Old Skool and anthems.I'd guess for a show that short they won't open the phone lines… I can only imagine some of the callers!
The calls might not be too bad as its during the day and I take it the premium number will be promoted but the die hards will know the Clyde studio number to call George and ask for Bits n pieces. |

But i digress. 10 sings at 10 o clock. How hard is it to get that wrong ffs. Whoever comes up with this nonsense wants sacking. City had a golden opportunity to capitalise on juice going and have well and truly blown it. I can actually see city 2 having higher figures the way it's going, the whole package sounds so much better, not least the sung jingles and the beds. |

GBX anthems this afternoon seems to have been received well on twitter.
It didnt seem as nedy as the Clyde 1 Saturday show. Maybe this was a trial to see if it would work across the Scottish network |
