According to Radio Today, the Free Radio stations are about to start taking Bauer off peak network programming.
No word about GEM though, so I'm presuming they aren't included in this.. http://radiotoday.co.uk/2016/12/free-radio-to-take-bauer-programmes-off-peak/ |

No mention of Free Radio 80s joining the Greatest Hits network either. Mind you I suppose a PC in a cupboard is cheaper

http://www.key103.co.uk/local/gemma-...103-breakfast/ The breakfast show finishes at 10.00 and then Gemma will have travel across the M62 to travel to Emmerdale set. Will Gemma stick with the Breakfast Show on Key 103 or will she leave in 6 months due to commitments with Emmerdale. Will Gemma leave Emmerdale for the breakfast show on Key 103. |

Good signing. I know many of us are anoraks and miss the days when local radio DJs would have tons of time to put their own unique content into a show and slowly work their way towards Capital, then the BBC. But a combination of cutbacks and radio becoming a bit of a visual media (via social media, livestreams etc) mean you need a bit of star quality. And if that means Mark Wright, for example, sitting in a booth for half an hour and some unlucky tech-op (or very good automation) playing those out on Friday and Saturday nights so you have a big name associated with your station, that's the way it goes. (before anyone dives in and goes "call him a big name?", within Capital's demographic he's bloody huge)
In terms of how the Gemma deal works practically goodness knows. I suppose she could clock off at 9am and head over, having done the important hours. If she's going to do those two jobs simultaneously then that's a hell of a work ethic which I can only applaud, because soaps involve a hell of a lot of effort. It obviously depends on how she fits with her co-presenter and the team, but if it works then there's a bit of (sort of) local star quality in there. In a similar vein, when Scarlett Moffatt was on Capital NE it ended up actually getting me to tune in and I have never been to the region, so I imagine it would have been even more popular in the local area. A shame she's leaving to presumably try out new stuff in London, but hey, that's the inevitable way of the UK I suppose. |

I never knew they would do such a thing, next for example Rock fm advertasing Forth 1.
I wonder if CFM are plugging the event at the Newcastle Metro Radio Arena as there is not an Arena in Carlisle. People will either have travel to Newcastle or Manchester to go to an Arena. |

For parts of the Borders area, Newcastle will be their nearest gig. It's not just a random selection. |

I notice what they have not announced it would appear is what they are doing with Free 80s? Does anyone know? That one originates from Birmingham - whereas under the new arrangements Manchester will host all off peak on the main station.
And Gem 106 is the other oddity - what is happening with that one? If this has been answered before - sorry! Thanks |

Obviously for Declan's benefit - Forth 1 are plugging and giving away tickets to it's sister station locational gig too... Party in the Portakabin at Radio Borders.

Thanks Personally, despite what has been said to the contrary, I wouldn't bet against the heritage names like BRMB and Beacon reappearing eventually (ie before the decade is out). Beacon 2 , Mercia 2 and BRMB 2 don't sound too bad. As for GEM it doesn't really fit with either the Big City stations or Magic. It's basically an AC station rather like Heart. It's not impossible Bauer might do a Communicorp and licence the Heart brand, but I'm into pure speculation here. |

Caroline Verdon replaces Scott Makin on Radio Aire.
So Wright takes over Key 103 weekday Late Show from Adam Catterall, as well as her Friday and Saturday Floorfillers Chilled shows. Not sure if this is just Key or network aswell. And Gemma will be staying on Emmerdale as well as doing Key 103. |

I don't think anyone knows the answer to either of those. For me the biggest issue with Free Radio 80s is that Free Radio 2 sounds really silly! Perhaps more importantly if Free 80s is profitable it might well stay.

You're probably right. I did say it was pure speculation. GEM might well stay as is, especially if it is profitable.
The other possibility of course is that ownership rules are further relaxed and Global buy the station outright. |

It seems like having a late night talk show in Manchester didn't bring in the figures they were looking for. So-Wright's show will obviously be quite music heavy because that's where her talent and experience is. To network that show would be a good call as long as there is a slot on City 2 for Tony Shepherd as he's certainly not a bad presenter either.
Something I'm yet to work out is if there will be a different daytime show on each station or just one as there is now. The RT article states, "All programmes, with the exception of eleven hours on weekdays and four hours on weekend afternoons, will come from outside the area." If there's just one show it would be wrong if Dan Morrissey didn't continue but if there were four different shows I don't know who it would be. I would hope that Gemma Hill emerges from the changes with a show somewhere, perhaps Darren Lee could get a weekday show and Cat James could present the Black Country and Shropshire show as she was the casualty of moving Jo and Sparky to breakfast. |

Free Radio 80s might possibly become Absolute 80s (pairing both the AM and West Midlands licenses). But if that's the case, then wouldn't the Free brand act like Radio Boarders and take on a playlist that crosses over between both Place 1 & 2 during the daytime?
