Instead of 30 something? I remember when the press release for the Carters were first released it stated Nancy was 21. But obviously they decided to age her down as it was mentioned on screen in October that she was celebrating her 21st. I think Linda and Mick being in their forties would be slightly more realistic too given that they have 3 kids who are all over 20, apart from Johnny who's still 20. Maybe they decided to make Mick and Linda in their thirties though to accommodate the Mick being Shirley's son plot??
I know both Kellie Bright and Danny Dyer are in their late thirties but I'm sure they could make both of them pass as 40 something if they wanted to.
Anyways, it's irrelevant now as we know their ages but do you think initially Mick and Linda were supposed to be older? Also, I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but who is older - Mick or Linda?

I'm pretty sure Mick is around 37/38, Linda's either the same or slightly younger.

I think it was a better decision for them to be in their late thirties because we were told they were 'childhood sweethearts' so that's why the age gap between them & their children is 16/17 years.

I still think it wasn't a very good decision for them to reveal they weren't married, but I'm assuming they did this so they can have a big square wedding once the rape storyline has concluded.

EDIT: Mick is 39, Linda is 38 BTW.

I'm glad lollipop1995 thought the same as me! Presumed I had imagined this? Whatever the case I wish the writers would make character's back stories more believable rather than confusing. Bit fed up with so many female characters being teenage mothers.

It's not their ages that are the problem. It's the ages of their kids. Far better to have had two older kids (say Lee/Nancy) and a 10 year old. Introduction of kid into that age group alongside Bobby / Denny/ Tiffany would have built a cross group of teenagers growing up across main families. I know Tiff has gone for now but she needs to return at some point.

Mick was born in 1977 so he is 38 now.

Lee must be 22 or 23.

Mmm it's always confused me that they have 3 grown-up kids. Presumably the first one was a mistake, but did they choose to have two more before they hit 20? I suppose it must happen but it's always seemed odd.

So is Linda. She turned 38 on July 1.

If you work it out, it means Linda and Mick had three children before the age of 19/20 pretty much. When Linda went back to her old pub with Stan, she remarked that her and mick decided to have children at a young age, following the sudden death of her dad. So Lee was no accident. It was planned. Linda was in her early teens when her dad died. It's bizzare that teenagers at that age actually decide to have a children. What sort of mother is Elaine for allowing her daughter to do this?

That's the bit that doesn't make sense. A kid at 16 unplanned and another at say 19/20 is reasonable. But 3 planned kids by the age of 19/20 is just iffy. I don't let it bother me particularly but it just poor character planning in my view.

Didn't we have Lee turning 22 and Nancy turning 21 a couple of weeks later a few months ago. Which does make sense, that there would only be about 13 months between them and then about another 18 months until Jonny.

I just go by the original ages and not the new ages DTC cooked up for them.

Mick and Linda had Lee at 14, Nancy at 16 and Johnny at 18. Lee I can buy Lee being an accident and Nancy and Johnny being planned. Mick himself was an accident and I wonder if Tina was an accident since there is an 11 year age difference between Shirley and Tina.

Tina was meant to be older and closer to Shirley age but they made her younger when Louisa was cast in the role, she wasnt meant to look or be anything like they have made Tina out to be
