Hello

I am trying to figure out the best way to listen to my music collection (which I have on local network and in cloud)

I have a HCS from Sony that I got a while back about 8 years ago. The amp in question is the Sony STR K890, and I have it set up so I can listen to TV, VCR, PS3 etc using it.

All my Music is saved on a HDD, (also on Google Play music if relevant to my question)

I live in France, and with my Internet provider, Bouygues, I can access all my Music via a Media Player through their Set Top Box, however in order to do this I need to switch on my TV & STB, access the Media library through the Media Player interface on STB via TV, play music, switch the receive onto SAT (this is what STB is using), and then switch off TV. (The music is streamed through the STB, not the TV

This is a major pain especially since the Media Player provided by my ISP is very rudimentary.

Another alternative has been to play music on either my Android tablet or Windows Tablet, and plug in an adaptor from the headphone of the tablet to the (analogue?) A/V ports on the front of the amplifier, but the challenge here is that since the source is the headphone port on the tablet it always seems the be a poor connection- either I have to turn up volume way to high or I get interference.

I am looking to either get a recommendation as to how to correctly connect an android or windows tablet to this amplifier, or recommendation on an additional piece of hardware I could buy that would a) find the networked or cloud music and b) be playable through the HiFi ( eg the amplifier for HCS)

There is a DMPort on the back of the amplifier, could I use that?

My apologies if this is long winded or unclear, please let me know if I have forgotten anything

Conor

How about ChromeCast into the TV?
Hi Stig, thanks for the reply. I am not quite sure how this would work. if I use ChromeCast on my TV, I need to have my TV on for playing Music right? eg it would be the TVs connection to the amp that would be transmitting music. i was trying to avoid having to use the TV if possible. Out of curiosity could one use a ChromeCast directly on the amp? that would possibly make good sense right?

Having said that I'll play with ChromeCast to see if i can get a suitable configuration worked out, thanks again for the idea!

Any one else any other thoughts?

As long as whatever box you use has analogue audio outputs you can connect it to any amp you want, no need for a TV - except to be able to see what you're setting (and you can then turn the TV off).

Edit:
Just looked up Chromecast - it's a pretty zero spec and useless device Get an Android box, or something else that offers much greater versatility and I/O options.
