iPhone6 run over by 10 ton truck
I had a little mishap while cycling the other day whereby my iPhone 6 got run over by a lorry. Although it had a smashed screen it still seemed to be working. I had the screen repaired (£60) and then found the camera wasn't working (ordered but not fitted yet by my local friendly repair shop - £60). Everything else seems fine. However, I have just discovered that my Apple Watch won't pair to the phone (not using the camera obviously, but manually) and although Bluetooth is working on the phone I'm wondering whether Low Energy Bluetooth is a separate piece of hardware to regular Bluetooth and it might be that which is broken. Anyone know ?

If it isnt too late it may be worth cutting your losses and getting a quote for repair from Apple themselves.... they will just replace the handset. If you try and get it fixed outwith Apple then it may cost you more in individual parts to solve all the issues

The stupid thing is I have insurance with my bank on the phone, but it's £100 excess. When I thought it was just the screen it was both cheaper and quicker to get it repaired (I had it repaired within a couple of hours). I couldn't face the thought of the hassle and time involved in going the insurance route, particularly as I am travelling a lot in the next month both home and abroad, just wanted it sorted. If I thought I could have it done for a further £60 (the camera) I would happily have paid the extra for the convenience.
EDIT: Scratch that its £236.44 It might be better going down the insurance route on that basis, because of the way the iPhone is made, with severe damage like yours they will opt to give you a new or refurbished handset. https://www.apple.com/uk/support/iphone/repair/other/ Last edited by Aye Up : 15-08-2015 at 18:03. Yeah don't bother with further repairs, you might spend £100-200 in repairs only to find something else goes wrong with it later down the road(no pun intended) lol

I think you've shot yourself in the foot. Now you've had the screen repaired by someone else It's highly likely Apple won't touch it.

Let's look on the bright side - gives me self justification for the 6S next month I'm sure I'd get a taker in my family for an iPhone 6 freebie whose only problem is not working with the watch.

Does anyone actually know the answer to my original question i.e. is LE BT different hardware-wise from regular Bluetooth i.e. a different chip ?

There's just no telling what else has been damaged - with these miniscule multilayered boards there could be a hairline break in a circuit track that you'll never repair. It's remarkable the thing works at all but this sort of repair is only really done out of interest rather than a reliable repair.
I've done lots of repairs on equipment that gets run over, dropped from heights etc and they often end up having intermittent, weird faults that you rarely can resolve. |

Personally I'm likely to suggest it was the repair that did the damage. I've heard of so many non Apple repairs of 6's causing more problems...

Well I've had the camera module replaced and all is now well, everything seems to be working including the Watch. In fact I was overlooking something so obvious when I was asking about Low Energy BT - I have a Trackr device on my key ring which pairs with the phone via LE BT and it was working fine all along, so there never was a hardware problem.
