Gilmour says Pink Floyd are finished for good.

"I'm done with it. I've had 48 years in Pink Floyd -- quite a few of those years at the beginning, with Roger (Waters)," he says in the music title’s cover story. "And those years in what is now considered to be our heyday were 95 per cent musically fulfilling and joyous and full of fun and laughter. And I certainly don't want to let the other five per cent color my view of what was a long and fantastic time together. But it has run its course, we are done - and it would be fakery to go back and do it again."

Hardly a surprise, but still. What a great band.

The word legends gets thrown around a lot

This band trascends that and beyond

Have truly left a seminal mark in the fabric of music

Anyone would think he had a solo tour coming up.

they were finished over 30 years ago as far as i'm concerned. once roger left the soul of the band was gone and going onstage with more extra members than anyone could remember and getting someonen who wasn't even in the band to co-write the songs just didn't make the post roger band the same at all. i much preferred rogers solo stuff to the floyd stuff after he left. dave's solo album was good though

with 2 of the original/classic 5 dead and another leaving 30 years ago i think it was fairly obvious the band were over. it doesn't stop dave from touring and even bringing nick with him, and playing floyd tunes mixed with his solo stuff, which is exactly what he is doing

you don't know how long either of them will be around either

btw rog is planning on touring again next year. he might even get round to releasing a new album at some point. they are all so slow to release stuff these days and time is running out

Live 8 was a great way to bow out for the classic member line up. When Rick Wright died that was it as far as I was concerned it could never be Pink Floyd again. The three albums without Roger are not too bad and I actually prefer them to stuff like Ummagumma and Atom Heart Mother.

However the run of albums between Meddle and The Wall will not be beaten. The David Gilmour solo shows in 2006 were magic and the highlight of those tours was Echoes in all it's 23 min glory.

Agreed. PF only carried on after Water's departure mainly for money purposes as it was easy then for them to coin it in, and also to prove to RW that they could survive without him. But musically they just became very stale and uninspiring It was never the same without RW and never as good without his songwriting skills. A Momentary Lapse Of Reason is proof enough as to how devoid of originality the band had become.
