The Kathy return will give him his p45 as I fully expect it to be absolutely ridiculous

Far more good than bad. He's done very well.

Is that Kathy who has already appeared in the show to mostly a positive fan reception and press?

He started off strong, but it's been very hit and miss in the last few months.

I think the block storytelling is a hindrance. Certain stories are not strong enough to warrant two or three weeks devoted them. Case in point, the Stacey/Kush/Shabham/Martin story. I don't look forward to that coming back and dominating weeks on end. Tedious.

I have to say that I have mostly loved DTC's era and he won me back as a regular viewer, but more recently the writing seems to have gone to pot and reminds me of how bad it was during Kirkwood's era, with characters changing personalities and motivations overnight to suit the plot and too many things that just aren't making sense at the moment, for example:

Why isn't Lauren doing anything about her dad being wrongfully arrested? So what she's in New Zealand, since when has anyone in New Zealand been uncontactable?

Ian trying a one man version of good cop, bad cop on Lauren to get Cindy and Liam to leave. Again, what is to stop them contacting anyone even if they do go to Devon or Germany?

Why doesn't Lola simply get a return ticket to come back and live with the new love of her life and her 'pop'?

Why doesn't Jane phone Tanya to tell her that her mum's acting a little strangely down at the allotments?

Why did Ronnie suddenly switch from wanting a perfect family with 1.5 children and a dog to being bored of Charlie? There was absolutely no build up to her finding him boring, just one short scene of him snoring!

It makes me concerned for what crazy scenarios they're going to come up with to explain Kathy's reappearance...

Excellent at the beginning but now just too repetitive. Everyone has a secret which takes ages to come out, usually changes something historical for the sake of it.

His exits are awful so far and completely rushed and out of character (Jonny, Lola, Alex and Liam no doubt, Carol too probably leaves before she finds out the truth). Lees depression came out of nowhere and now he's disappeared. Just too much block storytelling.

Finally you can't really support many characters now. Kush had potential but had an affair, we will never forget Dean is a rapist, Jane and Ian are ruined, Charlie cheated on Ronnie.
