I bought an Amazon Fire Tv box yesterday. All was going well, installed no problem, downloaded some apps. However then I noticed there was a software update which I installed. However at the end of the install the screen went blank and i can get anything on the screen. I have tried the reset pressing the right and back buttons together. It seems to go through the motions and i get the Amazon sign come up, then it shows the update install and screen goes black again. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how have you sorted it out? Any help appreciated.

I would ask them to replace it if you have only just bought it. Never had any problems with mine.

Amazon support determined that I live in Germany and rang me from their German offices I think, however they spoke no English at all..so that was pointless. As it is I will be taking it back to the shop I bought it from tomorrow for a replacement unless someone can come up with a solution.

Fair enough then. Amazon can be a bit annoying with that, I agree.

So, right now, I think it would be best to take it back for a replacement as you really shouldn't be seeing any issues that you describe. I have both the box and stick, and this shouldn't happen.

Am I correct in that you are using your standard Amazon account, or have you created a new Amazon account?

Secondly, do you have Smart DNS set up at your router level which may be redirecting some Amazon requests? (Or a VPN for that matter)?

Thirdly, which country is your Amazon account set up for, UK or DE? And do you have a German or UK Prime account?

My account was set up in the UK, I set prime up on that. Yes i am using unlocator. It was all fine until last night i noticed was a software update. I clicked on it and it all seemed fine until i suppose it rebooted after the update and now I have a permanent black screen. I can do the reboot by pressing buttons on the remote, then I see the amazon logo, that disapears and the box appears like its doing something, then it flashes blue for less than a second and then back to black. i then have breathing yellow light, then it flashes yellow and then back to the breath yellow light..

Year, that sounds like you need to replace the box.

I don't know if Unlocater provide Amazon DE or UK service as many just work with Amazon US. But I can't see that being an issue here. Still, if I were you, I'd still check with Unlocator's switch settings and see if there is anything for Amazon to flip.

Otherwise just grab a new box tomorrow.

Try a different hdmi cable or port in your TV.

This sounds like your problem, sort of, although restarting doesn't work for you.
