Zach gets neutered tomorrow...Any advice?
Karis

Zach gets neutered tomorrow - they found non-cancerous tumours on his bottom which are testosterone related, so, as they could turn cancerous, I've no choice but to get him neutered, which is really eating me up.

He's already been through so much and now this...

So many must have experienced neutering... I just feel like it's a huge betrayal. I'm sure he loves his boy parts and while he'll be fine, I just hope he's not going to be any different or weird changes.

Anyone got any positive words to say? I'm just being pathetic, I know...

is he a dog or a cat? not that it matters but I only have experience with cats..........

I would always neuter a pet so I dont get anxious or feel about about getting it done but I do understand some people dont like to do it

positive words - the positive thing is that you wont have to worry that the tumours might become cancerous - I would say that is a pretty huge reason to get it done whether you want to or not

not pathetic at all

Hope Zach is ok

How old is he? I got my dog neutered on the advice of my vet when he was quite young and felt guilty for a while. It didn't change his personality and it certainly didn't calm him down! Unlike humans, animals are really not aware of the significance of their sexual parts. It probably means that they're less frustrated in general as the urges aren't the same.

You're doing it to help him, as he could develop more tumours. Many elderly men are castrated to help deal with prostrate cancer.

Don't know if you are talking about a Mutt or a Moggy.

OP, I didn't have the added worries you have, re his tumours, but getting a pet 'done' is very routine and can be of benefit to them.

When the Beast was done, he was a bit dopey for a day, whilst he recovered, and then straight back to his normal gitness. and things carried on as normal.

Zach will be fine, and best wishes.

He is 7. The vet said there was a very high chance the next tumor could be cancerous so I think I made the right decision. Hell, the non cancerous tumors were horrible enough!

It's 48 hours ago now and he seems to be recovering quite nicely. In fact he is already complaining about going for a walk so I guess that's where we're going now.

Thanks for all the comments xxx

Problems like that are very common as they get older - you really had no choice and he'll be all the better for it. I'm glad he's recovering well

Absolutely. Thanks. The non-cancerous tumours were ghastly enough (they leaked this foul stuff and smelled awful). Thank DOG we caught them early.
