New ereader

Hello I'm looking to replace an old Kindle. I currently have an ipad mini but I prefer the kindle screen for reading. I've also seen my library (UK) has started doing ebooks with overdrive but Kindles aren't compatible with this? Is this right and if so what is the best alternative?

Apparently OverDrive can work with Kindle, too. But I expect it to be only non-DRM content, which is probably not what libraries would want. So you will need an ePub reader, which is any reader except Kindle. I can't help you there, I use only Kindle last 5 or so years.

Calibre software will covert DRM content to a format that you can transfer to your Kindle.

That will work for sure. But how does it work with the libraries? Don't you have to show up with a device or is Adobe ID enough?

From what I remember, when I checked out an e-book from my local library, I downloaded from the OverDrive site into my iPad. Had to sign up first!

I've got a Kobo Mini for library books. It's fairly simple to download them using Adobe Digital Editions software, but does involve downloading the books to a computer first and then transferring to the Kobo via usb.

I'm not keen on the Kobo Mini (it was very cheap though!). The small size means that I'm constantly turning pages and I find the touch screen unresponsive. I much prefer my Kindle e-reader.

You can use the Overdrive app to read library books on various tablets including Kindle Fires but then lose out on the benefits of e-ink.
